Old Everton Pictures

It was Honey West (a US tv private eye) Joe. I remember seeing this as a kid at one of my first Derbies few years later. The gesture was of its time and a light hearted bit of the 60s typical Scouse wit. Different times.....
We used to run on & pass a Banana to Iain St John because he had a face like a monkey- not PC nowadays, but both players took it as good fun back then.....

For @westychan & co -
A rare incident in 60's football.... a goalkeeper being sent off. Gordon West of Everton at Newcastle, 1967/68 season.
In the dying minutes of the game, West cleared the ball upfield. As Newcastle’s, Jim Iley, ran past him, West kicked out and caught Iley needlessly. Fortunately for Newcastle (unfortunate for West and Everton), the referee spotted the foul and sent West off. The ball, although deep in Newcastle’s half, was technically still in play and although the ball itself was well upfield, the foul by West occurred inside the Everton penalty area. The referee awarded a penalty. Newcastle scored and won the game 1-0.
West was - at that time - only the 12th goalkeeper to be sent off in all four English leagues since the war. I have no idea what the total is today

- He then blamed poor sandy Brown who went in goal for letting the pen in :D

I was there/

Ive always thought Gordon West and Jordon Pickford are alike. Did West had similar playing style to Pickford?
No he could come out & catch the ball - commanded his area - if Gordon Banks had not been around Gordon West would have been a permanent England no 1 - plus in Gordon West era their was very little protection from referees for goalkeepers ...

Add to that if he had an off game he had a no 2 in Andy Rankin to take his place - Pickford could have a bad game now & does not get dropped in Gordon West era they did get dropped ....
plus if the no 2 keeper came in & played well - he kept his place ....

Seldom happens in todays game ....
