Labby with his racehorse Goodison - which had a two wins - the players on the coach all had a bet on it as Gordon West collected the players syndicate money for the race it was always an outsider - we were awy the Catt & Wilf Dixon were not asked as Westy made an excuse that he needed the toilet - & left to put the bet on we drew away - the Catt looked around when Westy got off again to collect the winnings -
He was fuming when he found out the players had cleaned up ith the roars of delight - he questioned Labby, you earn enough already he snapped back think it came in at 14 to 1 as an outsider - Bally & the GV purchased a horse top dollar - they joked it only had 3 legs lost a fortune on stable bills vet bills etc & a nag like Labbys won 2 races

The prolific Royston Vernon he used to state - There's Jimmy Greaves , Dennis Law then me - If he had not been fetched up on woodbines to become a chain smoker, he may have been top dog over as over 12 yards it was stated there was no one faster the GV stated he would have been a no 1 striker only for his chain smoking , and more skillful - he had a thunderous shot with no back lift - I only seen him once or twice nothing of him , but he was the snide in our team who supplied the GV with some goals yet he was leading scorer for three seasons...
the GV got the Glory, from the idolising fans - but Roy was so special - for @roy vernon & co -

22 September 1962 Roy Vernon beats Jim Furnell from the pen spot leaving him rooted.... he only ever missed 1 Spurs away he kicked the ground first & it dribbled to the relived keeper he scored all of the time - he actually used to point at the corner to the keeper of where he was hitting the ball mostly into the side netting hard & low -
