Forest beat the rs in the 1978 final so are game in nov 78 was later.

It was the first game of the season Forest beat us when they came up as a promoted team!

Superb thread, even as a Sunderland fan. Loads of the black and white photos trick my mind into thinking it's Roker Park when I look through.
I know you need a bigger ground but if/when you do leave Goodison it will be a sad day, trust me I still miss Roker 20 years later, nothing comes close to night games in old historic stadiums.

What an absolutely rotten draw that was in the very first round. Inter ended up winning the tournament.

Naturally the RS won the league the next year and drew some crap team from Iceland.
