1980 - Everton 2-0 Southampton. Victory for Gordon Lee’s Blues at Goodison, as they claimed 3pts vs the Saints. A John Gidman penalty & a goal for Gary Stanley - his only goal for EFC - sealed the win.
1982 - Everton 2-1 Arsenal. A victory for Howard Kendall’s young Blues over the Gunners at Goodison. Billy Wright & Adrian Heath both scored to seal the win for EFC, as they rose to 9th in the table.
1974 - Everton 1-0 Man Utd. A massive midweek game under the Goodison lights saw a Mick Lyons goal hand EFC victory & leave Man Utd, in 21st place, on the brink of relegation. Utd would be relegated 4 days later following defeat against Man City.
2002 - New Everton manager David Moyes achieved his initial primary objective of keeping the Blues in the PL, as following Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Ipswich Town, the Blues were now mathematically safe from relegation.
2001 -Arsenal 4-1 Everton. Kevin Campbell scored EFCs goal. The match is most remembered for an EFC fan running on to the pitch & trying to strip an underperforming Alex Nyarko of his shirt. A shaken Nyarko announced his immediate retirement but he later changed his mind.
1988 - Coventry City 1-2 Everton. A midweek away win at Highfield Road for the Blues, with Graeme Sharp & Adrian Heath on target. The win lifted EFC to 3rd in the table.
1983 - Everton 2-0 Man Utd. A good midweek win for Howard Kendall’s Blues under the lights at Goodison, vs a Utd side who were 3rd in the league. Adrian Heath & Graeme Sharp both scored for EFC.
1981 - Everton 4-1 Middlesbrough. The final win of Gordon Lee’s Everton managerial career saw Asa Hartford score twice (one goal being a penalty), plus goals from Peter Eastoe & Gary Megson in big win over Boro at Goodison.
1940 - Johnny Morrissey Snr was born. Morrissey played 314 times for EFC, scoring 50 goals. He won 2 lge titles in a 10yr EFC career, scoring the 1968 FA Cup SF winner. His son John was an EFC apprentice in the early 1980s & had a successful career with Tranmere Rovers.
1961 - Just hours after Everton won 5-1 vs Cardiff City to go 4th, chairman Sir John Moores sacked EFC manager Johnny Carey in the back of a taxi. 4th place wasn’t good enough for Moores, he wanted EFC to be 1st.
1961 - Everton 5-1 Cardiff City. The Blues thrashed the Bluebirds at Goodison to go 4th in the table, thanks to a hat trick from Bobby Collins (1 goal being a penalty) & 2 goals from Alex Young.
