It's fair to say Bingham did a good job in his first season, stopping the rot and drift of the last couple of Catterick years and finishing 7th. He did well the following season, too, when we should have won what was a poor league, ultimately finishing 4th. Biggest mistake he or we made was not signing anyone (especially a g/k) at the end of that season. Having thrown away the league everyone was a bit flat, especially as some of the players blamed Bingham;s tough and knackering training sessions for their late season fade-out.
Everyone needed a boost, especially the players and supporters. A couple of new faces to strengthen the obvious weaknesses would have done that. Instead there were no new faces and it was downhill all the way for the rest of Bingham's reign, with just the odd bright spark - Andy King and the League Cup run.
Unfortunately after his good start he did not lose weight - his alleged clubbing & womanising was his downfall soon sent back too Aberdeen - blaming his size on doing the weights in the training ground Gym ....
