Is that Boxing Day 1963 v Arsenal. My brother and I were given Upper Gwladys St tickets for the Arsenal game as Christmas presents and arrived at the ground to find it snowed off. Had similar experiences later on visits to West Brom and Spurs.
The big freeze of 63.
Even our undersoil heating, of which we were one of the pioneers, couldn't thaw the pitches early in that period of which I remember so well.
At that time we were living in relatively new flats. Cast iron window frames which froze the latch on the inside. Ice on the window panes which when thawed caused massive damp issues. But we were
happy?

The hot water pipes were too near the rooted grass - it all got redone if I remember correctly ......as hence the muddy patches of dead grass ...

Spot on Joey. John Moores splashed the cash a little too fast, buying something that hadn't really been proven. In 1963 however it did allow us to get a few games in while others were postponed and was accredited with helping us win the league.

Born on this day in 1903, Ted Critchley. Ted starred as a winger for StockportCounty Everton pnefc etc. Later ran a pub in Hazel Grove. Pictured here, at his daughter's wedding, with ex Everton teammate (and fellow publican) Tommy Johnson

….i think that’s Archie Styles on the left, Joey. I have a vague recollection Archie went to Venice St school in Anfield, I expect he’d be the only schoolboy international from there.

Archie lives not far from me in West Derby these days.
I thought it was Archie , i played left back in the same team we had a great team from 1st year to 4th year.He played left back for Liverpool Boys and England ,and in goal for us.Over the years of playing football i have often heard people say i could have been a professional. But i remember Archie as a 12 year old taking goal kicks on a adults pitch, the opposing team would stand near the edge 18 yard box, only to see the ball disappear to the half way line.He could kick a ball out of his hands and hit the other 18 yard box,all with a pair of old leather boots with leather stud's.He was the fastest lad in the school,he jump the highest ,and the longest ,was good at long distance running and the most important thing he was as hard as nails, but he was a good lad,ps i was the better swimmerEggs if you see him dont tell him that i said that he will come around and sort me out.If i was cleaver i could put are team photo up but it was 1962to63 just noticed he is the tallest as well.

….lovely memories, Buddy. in those days being an England schoolboy international was real pedigree, as was playing for Liverpool Schoolboys. He must have been some player.

When I played for the City Team I had already signed for a top club but they weren’t allowed to contact me during that season, how times have changed.

i went to John Hamilton so I guess you lived not far away. A good mate of mine told me Archie had played in goal, I never met him although ironically I know a few of his family. He was a classy footballer but I think he had a few demons, the YouTube clip of him playing for Birmingham against Steve Coppell at OT is a classic.

Here's Archie - 26 appearances in all between 1972 and 1974 before moving to Birmingham.
