Whittle's exquisite chip at Anfield to put us 2-0 up in late 1970. What followed still gives me nightmares!
My dad came back from this one absolutely shell shocked. He had gone to the 2-0 win towards the end of the title winning season in the spring and it was brilliant. He swore never to go to the Pit again because it could never be that good again. But he had his arm twisted for the next season and was on the Kop I think. Complete dominance followed by shambolic collapse from 2-0 up!!!!
Needless to say he never returned to the Pit after that one!!!!! In fairness he hated the place. He used to go quite regularly like many in the 1950s to support the opposition but those two visits I described were his only ones there that I remember in my lifetime. Highs and lows!!!

Another great player from 1970 team -Tommy played his last game for us when he was just 28 - cut down in his prime.

That was a terrible day we were so much on top that we were singing "easy easy easy"

Yes I was on the Kop with 15 minutes to go with my red mate he pleaded with me to leave for an early bus - a certain sub named Heighway came on for them .......
The game disintertergrated for us Toshack was supplied with crosses - then spawny Chris Lawler with a last minute winner - still gutted!
