Player Valuation: £80m
After yet watching another match of our midfield being overrun, Arteta needs to be in the center of the park now.

I really don't see where there's any reason not to.

Our best player on the ball by a country mile yet goes missing out on the wing as we don't get him involved enough.

I'm telling you, this will alleviate quite a few (not all) of our problems in the middle of the park in terms of possession, creativity, and our overall attack.

Yes I know that leaves one spot open on the wing and no I don't know who exactly I'd put there as you have Pienaar on one side. I guess you'd have to give Osman a run out there.

But in my opinion, our options are limited and for me, it's a no brainer.

Discuss.

Id agree, However - in a 4-4-2 where could he go? With Fellaini and Cahill in the centre, it wouldnt work, so its only in a 4-5-1 that it would, and Osman is [Poor language removed] on the wings, and its looking like 4-4-2 is our best formation this season tbh...

I'm not sure one man could fix things right now as so many players seem off form. Osman is sloppy on the ball, unusually for him. Pienaar likewise has been messy in recent games. Cahill has been awful since he returned to the side and Arteta has been in and out of games. Add to that, we played Rodwell today and whilst I suspect he'll be a fine player eventually he's far from ready to hold down such a vital position, especially when so many around him are firing blanks.

West Ham knew today that if they pressed our midfield they'd either lose the ball or pass it back to the defence who'd lose it for them. No one in midfield had the ability to maintain posession under pressure. Some of the football from last season, especially in Europe was pretty good so I know we can play decent football. Not Arsenal or Barcelona standards of course but considerably better than we've shown in recent weeks.

How to return to that standard though I have no idea.

I agree 100%, I've been saying it for a while now to be honest.

He should be pulling the strings in the middle, he's the only player in the whole squad who can control a game.

Even if it's just for a periods in games, 30 minutes or so and he can calm things down because of his composure and passing ability. It would definatly benefit us, especially at home where teams are controling games on our own patch which pisses me off big time.

Arteta wasn't well today and played a full match.

I think I'll let him have this one off day down to illness.

I would certainly like to see Arteta play in the centre. I personally think that is his position. I'm not saying that Moyes shouldn't move him around sometimes, but his starting place is central midfield.

I wish we would not bow down to his orders that he has to take every freekick and corner.

Thats annoying - but the most annoying is when the commentators actually think he is good at set pieces (which is most games commentated on) .

because commentators are normally behind on Everton by at least 12 months on who is good and who isn't, same with non Everton fans who claim Arteta is the only good player.

Get VDM on the right with Pienaar on the left, Arteta and Fellaini in the centre.

Or, get Stephen Hunt signed for the left wing and play Pienaar on the right.

Lets consider the silver lining, with every game Rodwell plays, he takes another step to becoming a first team regular, so getting the small steps done now means next season or the season after we will have a home grown regular in midfield. (with the capacity to rock up when need be).
