Noticeable Improvements

To be honest Dave, I don't care how many goals we score as long as we win. A 1-0 win is fine by me anytime.
The first thing a club and manager has to breed is the winning mentality , when the mentality is right then the style of football can be tweaked.
I think this is where our previous manager failed, he would not accept that he operated in a results business. To him style was all important, but commendable as that is, in professional sport it's result's that count.
Well, all managers have styles (and rigidities concerning them), and Koeman will be no exception. I have yet to see the famed 'pragmatist' at work yet. He has a very basic back to front asap game plan and will tweak formations only.

Yeah, that'll be it.
It is worth considering...
That season (13/14) we had many teams with over 70 pts and I think 5 that got 40 or less. That's not the norm. It suggests that the gulf in quality and differences in performance were much bigger then compared to the average or to this season.
To look at only our stats is ignorant. You have to consider how competitive the league is/was compared to our stats before you make a conclusion.

Of course, this applies to all stats, not just the ones you have quoted. I think the only real way to account for seasonal competitiveness is watching our stats over a couple seasons. We know how it went for Bobby, but it's too soon to make conclusions about Koeman's Everton.
My point is; simply quoting numerical thresholds is mostly irrelevant.

I have just watched the Lukaku video and he says clearly that things are different under Koeman.

Koeman stuck by Jags and the Stek for too long and did not give youth a chance especially when it was clear
that the team lacked an identity, energy and spirit. Now we have a new formation, a couple of youngsters starting regularly and an identity, a manner of playing.

Coleman and Robles have stepped up and we have bought wisely during the Window. And we have the desire to finish in the Top 6.

It's a pity about the Cups but overall I think we have improved and are beginning to craft a good team.

If only there was a stat that would allow us to compare EFC to other clubs relatively both within the season and across them...
Or if only there was a stat to compare his EPL managerial success compared to Martinez...unfortunately Koeman had a lesser club in terms of prestige than Southhampton. There's no way he could complete with Everton at Southampton.

And I would add how many seasons will we get 6 points off one of the top teams? Take away the points we got against utd that season and we suddenly dip below the magic 70 point mark.

There were lots of factors why we did so well, one was the fact that the players (like we did) warmed to a character that was totally different to the dour scotsman that was in charge before. But I would say it was this feeling of a breath of fresh air rather than his tactical genius.

Last season there was a wide open league with everyone showing frailties and Martinez couldn't get us anywhere near despite us being the most stable. For all the praise he deserves for his first season he has to take an equal amount of criticism for that one. We coulda had class. We coulda been a contender. We coulda been somebody...

I have a very simplistic way of working out how Everton are doing. At times I am looking at the teams below us and trying to figure out if they will be good enough to overtake us. Been doing that for two seasons. Other times I am looking at the teams above us and trying to work out if we can overtake them. Doing that now.

That is improvement.

I think there would be more than one fan who isn't getting carried away by a half season which has been up and down. I'm optimistic but don't think this particular manager will do much more than OK. Hopefully I am wrong.

Sorry to interrupt the goading.

I don't think too many people are getting carried away, I think a lot of people are simply happy with the refreshing attitude of our manager and enjoying going to watch Everton play football again, much like this time of the 13/14 season.

The tough bit for Koeman will be keeping this going for more than 1 season
