Nothing Compares To Tom…. Or We Shouldn’t

Its the dross around him that can make him look poor, esp going forward. Rooney and Walcott apart, imo, the rest dont move and make space for him to play into or create a pass.

Fair to say he has "struggled" this season, and Klaassen must be looking on wondering what the hell...

But thought he had his best game in a long time at Watford, he shown a willingness throughout.

City fan in the office, eyeing up Davies as a future incoming. I hope he stays for a long long time and fulfills his potential. Wasn't he in a top 10 young European based players list released last week? The lad is on the radar of a lot of teams, it's up to the board to manage his situation correctly, and not mess it up a la Barkley and Lukaku, and get the team in a position where he can fulfill his potential here without having to think about a move to gain success.

I'd have the likes of Davies and Lookman and Kenny as the first on the team sheet if they were fresh and not needing to be rested due to age/ dip in form due to their age.

I think Tom can and will be a class act. This season has certainly not helped him with the majority of the team playing like shadows of their true selves. However he can and should learn from this.

If he does he can go on and boss our midfield for years, or at least until we get a tasty offer from one of the big fish.

He is to Barkley what DCL is to Lukaku

A massive downgrade
Has no real distinctly outstandingly great physical or technical attributes - he's not the best passer, not the best at shooting, not too fast or strong, not good in the air, not got the best ball control, and I might be wrong, but I think these attributes are why some of our fans (fairly to an extent) criticise him. Indeed whether or not he can improve these parts of his game may be what ultimately decide his career trajectory.

In my opinion, though, he has what players like Barkley don't have - determination, bravery, snide, and basically courage and confidence to influence the play through hard work, decision making and energy - a mentally strong player. He might not be the superstar individual player that we all want him to be, but he'll always try to have a positive influence, and sometimes that's all it takes to make a difference, especially in the right team.

Shame he couldn't have played a bit more with Barkley as I thought they did quite well together last season, and for me it's especially a shame we couldn't see Davies playing with Rooney and Barkley together...but Barkley chose to leave for Chelsea.

He is 19. Young but getting alot of experience. There is an all round player there no doubt and he has a very good work rate and a bit of snide and agression.

His touch is wofeful this season. The ball seems to bounch off him and he has had zero close control. This effects his passing options. He needs to improve in this department to stand a chance of making it as a top midfielder. But he is playing at 19 years of age in a high tempo league. With confidence and experience he will be able to relax on the ball.
I think the reason Tom and many other first teamers seem to have the first touch of a lump-hammer is that they dont actually pass to each other anymore, they sort of volley at each other?

I dont know if it is a confidence thing or not but they dont half welly it when the pass it at the moment, no wonder it is bouncing off everyone! That, and the fact that nobody seems to undertsand the use of shouting “man on”, when an opponent is bearing down on a team mate frustrates the giblets out of me!

There's definitely a top player in there, but I fear that without the correct guidance by the coaching staff, and senior players, he could just end up another one of our overhyped/overpraised youngsters who didn't reach his perceived and expected full potential.

Tom Davies gets a lot of stick because of his impact on last season compared to the lack of contributions this year. The squad as a whole was actually playing very decent football in the second of half last year, so I'd contribute the turnover in players a key factor in our plummet. I can't pinpoint one player that consistently looks good apart from Theo and we just signed him.

Collectively, this is the worst squad we have had in a while. The talent is there despite what people say, but the chemistry and fight is not. Is that down to the crapfest of managers or the players? Who knows. Regardless of what we believe is the problem, we need to go after a manager with some European experience. The "Premier League experience" bit won't cut it anymore.
