Personally. This is my own opinion, now - i've heard [Poor language removed] at Goodison, ( not for a very long time though ) in the Gladdy that made me want to punch the ******* lights out, i was born in Toxteth - i lived there til i was about 19, and moved around a bit, i went to a predomintly african/carribean/asian/chinese school, i was one of about 20 white kids in the school,so i've mixed with a lot of different kinda people and attitudes. I've met loads of racist chinese and black lads and girls, who hate white people with a passion, understandably so. but met loads of white ignorant racists in Kirkby and Walton, they are the ****** worst of the worst, people with a chip on their shoulders. It seems to be distant memory of us Blues being raving racists?

I think the main problem is people making an issue out of it. Even threads like this. 'We need to get as many ethnics throught the turnstiles as possible'. Errrrr how about we need to get as many fans through the turnstiles as possible. A lot of ethnicities seperate themselves by talking about themselves as being different. The longer this goes on, the more people who will bat an eyelid when someone who isn't white walks in.

Like I said, I was actually looking for something else and I came across this thread and felt moved to comment on coyney's post. I appreciate that there are plenty who are tired of the "racism" thing but there are also newer posters who have a right to post on old threads and add their voices as they see fit without getting shouted down. I really can't see the harm it's going to do. You don't have to read the thread if you don't like it, as I've often been told in the past.

No, I dont believe that Everton are a racist club or I wouldn't still be a supporter. I try and go to as many matches at Goodison as possible. My normal target is 5 home games a season.

Anyway, most times I go, not a head is turned at seeing my hue of skin which is how I like it. But at the Derby game I was amused, rather than surprised at the amount of kids left gauping at me while I walked around.

OK, I do look like Howard off that Halifax advert but the point is, we need to get those many black / asian / ethnic supporters through the turnstiles on a regular basis.

Oh, the biggest head turner pre-match? the white cadillac with elvis headed family, and their son / daughter belting out Elvis tunes off key. Now that is over indulgence by parents, and I'd personally slap an asbo on them

Not sure what the purpose of this thread is? Saying in one breath that people are "staring" then differentiating one Evertonian from another?

And as Dylan says 1.8% of the population in the local area is according to the census data "black". This isn't London lads. So don't go making issues of stuff that isn't even there.


Maybe THAT is why you feel people are staring , when they really aren't.


I really don't get this thread. "US and them" it seems to me. When to be honest most people like me don't go to the match looking at other people.

They go to watch the footy. Specifically Everton.

I don't believe that the Club is any more "racist" than it is Catholic. Both were held to be true way, way back (long before the 80's). Whether or not Gordon Lee actually said the infamous words attributed to him, noone will ever know for sure.

What the Club does is to provide a large open space where supporters can voice what's on their minds. Especially once they've had a couple of bevvy's down them.

In the 1910's / 20's, it was to do with the situation in Ireland. Remember that in those days, the local population on Scotty and the rest of Vauxhall was predominantly - overwhelmingly - Irish. They took exception to the activities of the Black and Tans in Ireland, voted in an Irish Nationalist M.P. for Liverpool Scotland from 1885 to 1929 (bloke called T.P. O'Connor)* , and - according to my dad - sang the Irish National Anthem at the game. Doesn't mean to say that the Club encouraged it. It was the stuff that was on their minds. And so a whole myth was born, that Everton are the Catholic club.

Same in the late 60's /70's and on. Immigration is a real problem for some people, so they vocalise their bigotry in a big, open space, where - usually - they can't easily be picked out.

There aren't anything like enough people from ethnic minorities at the game. Can you blame them? Last season there was a bloke acting as assistant referee at a game, obviously of Indian or Packistani background, and the abuse he took was nobody's business.
Not the Club's fault - it's the fault of twisted thinking of slightly odd people.

What can the Club do? Kick the Stewards up the arse. Make them earn their position by being proactive. But the Club can't ater the conditions which produce bigots.

We have a young following of scumbags at everton. you mostly see it at away games. they get in their little gang and think their the bollocks, they sing racist songs (i believe they was singing sick songs about the black lad who was killed in huyton when the train passed through),spit on stewards (Which ive witnessed) and play up where ever they go. put one of these little shitbags in a one on one and their arse would fall out the back of their keks!.
im not into football hooliganism (from what ive seen its just alot of men running around shouting). but i would love these little pricks to get a good hiding.

Agree with this. I've seen the little scroats robbing service stations. They're a complete embarrassment to our football club.

They go round giving it the big I am. Pathetic lads.
