What does a 'woke' lesson on the British Empire consist of? Telling the students that we spent most of history being a country of murderous, genocidal colonisers who looted half the planet of its resources, wealth and people to fund its expansion?

This is what I love about the use of the term 'woke', I believe it generated from being 'awake' to all of societal problems and an understanding that these were not the right way to live. Being against Racism, Sexism, any kind of division between fellow humans.

Basically, as you say the truth about the world we live in, not some kind of 'I am better than that person because I look and act differently to them'. That has seemingly been taken apart by some people to mean nothing to all kinds of truth, if we teach about our bad past then it is a bad thing and therefore 'woke'.

They think it is some kind of insult but in reality it means they are unknowingly complimenting you on your ability to show empathy, a willingness to understand all of history, your ability to adapt by learning off the past mistakes, they are literally and unknowingly telling you that you are better and a lot more intelligent than them

Based on the OP, I'd say it was meant to be a bit political regardless of where it has gone from there so I'm leaving it. You'll have to convince one of the other mods.

Wholly political ; the tendency of politicians (and others) to resurrect a period of time, which never existed, when all was sweetness and light in the world. Most strident in their posturings when their political policies come under the microscope.
