Not pretty but big difference in that we lose that game 1-0 every time over last few years.

Yes we need to add quality centrally but Carlo showed what organisation and determination can get you even when not playing well.

Back to back clean sheets too.

Promising signs that we ground a result out in tricky conditions with the heat.

The positive to me (other than the win) is that we looked very calm holding the lead. More calm than I've seen us in recent memory. Perhaps back to the Moyes days. It took his years to build that up and players playing hundreds of games together. Ancelotti looks to have really drilled them into how to get into shape, and ultimately how to play the percentages when in front. I suppose this is what having a manager who's a serial winner looks like.

.....had to go for Keane, although we improved significantly for Sigurdsson’s introduction.

I’m even more convinced Iwobi can be more effective in central midfield positions. He can run effectively with the ball and I really think he can pick a pass.

He looked happier off the right than on the left today. If Carlo want his wide players to tuck in, it could really suit him. Worth saying, he put a great defensive shift in again.

Less calm and more complacency imo. Nearly made our own problems several times when playing out the back.

....agree, I just think if we’ve got two DMs we Ideally need wide players who contribute goals and assists.

Well someone needs to start chipping in. I think he way a 4 operate in a 4-4-2 there's an onus on them all getting more goals. My gut feeling is here's probably only room for one of Iwobi/Bernard. Both lovely footballers but as you say not enough numbers. Iwobi is probably the ore frustrating but a little better at creating chances. Hopefully they can start to chip in a bit more. Most of the players looked to have improved under Carlo that much is true.

Keane would have been one of the MoTM candidates even without the header. We all know how terrible he can be when his head is drooping but he's been assured and steady in these two games.

Liked Iwobi in the second half. Best we've seen from him in awhile, right?

Holgate is in the running for MoTM so often it's not even remarkable anymore.

Sig was decent when he came on.

Because we can't have nice things we can't have too many midfielders playing well at once. gomes and Davies looked like they were both running with pianos on their backs.

Kean and/or Gordon need to get some starts for DCL and Richy in the next two games. 2 games/wk in warm/hot weather after sitting around for three months is going to kill everyone. Need to spell these guys sometime. Both were sluggish today I thought.

Another perfect demonstration from Carlo on how to use a squad and how to use subs. We have never seen the like from an Everton manager.
