i obviously remember him - but you usually remember keepers for their blunders and as he didn't make any that's why i don't remember him much

Magnificent keeper. Never felt edgy when a cross came in
Quality goalkeeper, would love to have him now, but nowhere near the level of Southall.
Spot on this, but that's no slant on Martyn at all.

Let's be honest, nobody will be as good as big Nev he was a freak of nature and as good as it gets.

But Martyn was top drawer. He had presence, was a leader in goal who the defence had total confidence in, he was superb at coming for crosses and was a great shot stopper.

Didn't have an obvious weakness to his game.

How we'd love another of that ilk right now!

Surely there's someone out there of a close to, or similar standard that we could get?

A top quality keeper in any team should never be understated.

They can win you plenty of points throughout the season.

Southall was world class and Martyn suffered a bit by being compared to him, but he was an excellent keeper. Up there with the likes of Gordon West for me, and not that far behind Big Nev.

Best keeper I've seen play for Everton hands down. Except maybe southall when I saw him play for us in the 5 a side seniors tournament they used to(?) show on sky.

I remember us winning one of them, mainly thanks to Southall. Nev was morbidly obese almost at that point, but was still flying around the goal making great saves.

Wish we had him now. Made such a difference having a top keeper in goal compared to what has come before and after him.
