NFL 2022 Season

I can see exactly where you trying to go with this and it doesn’t stack up. I don’t see Lamar as a legitimate competitor to the top passers in the game like Mahomes or Allen. I would go as far as to say he is part of the problem for Baltimore not making Super Bowls.

I’d rather have 20% of his running ability with 80% of Allen’s passing for example.

Look at the teams who’ve won Super Bowls in the last 10 years. Where are the dual threat qbs?
I think that's a bit of a fallacy though. The NFL spent 50 years thinking QBs had to play one way and a majority of them only played one way for that entire time. Now barely into trying it the other way we're going to say it can't work?

And fwiw the two best teams this season have guys who would qualify.

Also I think you have to count Russell Wilson. They used a designed QB run game in the years they made and won the Super Bowl with him.

I did think of Wilson, but thats one qb in 15 years, which is about the time frame of the dual threat.

Name the so-called dual threat QB's. Fields, Jackson, Murray, Hurts? None of them are regarded as in the top tier of Quarterbacks as passers (and yes, they do all play the Quarterback position) despite the so-called 'evolution' of the position.

At some point you are going to have beat the top teams with your arm and these dual threats are so far behind the pure passers that they fail.

Of all the top tier QB's Mahomes and Allen is closest to the dual-threat although I accept both will never run for 1000 yards like Jackson or Fields. But I dont think areits relevant when you look at results.

the Ravens for example know that Jackson will lose his legs at some point which is why they arent prepared to guarantee him the money he wants.

Allen has to count. And if Lamar and Allen aren't in the top tier then this is just a Mahomes reacharound conversation so I'm going to do something else.

Jackson doesn't have an agent, does everything himself.
Doesn't really change my point. Teams like Carolina or Detroit or Atlanta or Indianapolis (and on and on) will pay him whatever because they know how much worse it can be. Agent or not, the risk is very low.

With Mahomes I see a very strong character who is determined to drag his team over the line and will reach deep to ensure he does. Completed passes to 12 different receivers last week apparently.
Eleven, but who's counting.

Of those eleven, four were targeted just once (including MV-S). Each of them caught their single pass. Longest completion of those four was 14 yards.

Of the remaining players:

Toney, 2 targets, 2 catches, 12 yards total.
Watson, 5 targets, 2 catches, 37 yards.
McKinnon, 8 targets, 6 catches, 40 yards.
Gray, 3 of 3, 45 yards.
Hardman, 9 targets, 6 catches, 79 yards.

And then there's the two guys carrying Mahomes week in, week out.

JS-S, 12 targets, 10 catches, 88 yards.
Travis Kelce, 17 targets, 10 catches, 106 yards.

And how many TDs were scored from that array of receivers? One.

Mahomes went 43 / 68 for 446 yards with one score and one TD, for a QB rating of 71.9.

You see a very strong character because you WANT to see a very strong character. The stats say otherwise.

Titans at Chiefs gamebook.webp

And yet he still leads the league in td passes.

He has thrown for 400+ in consecutive weeks against very tough defenses.

He is the NFL MVP favourite which would be his second and is on pace to break Mannings single season yardage record.

And all that’s just what’s going on now.

He has the NFL all time passer rating, 4 consecutive AFC title games with 2 super bowl appearances and is an automatic hall of fame selection

But yeah he is being carried by everyone else.

This isnt Chase carrying Burrow.

What a joke of a post you have made there.

As if juju smith schuster is somehow irreplaceable.

You obviously don’t watch him much because there have been multiple playoff games and even a super bowl that he has dragged out of the fire himself.

He's not even the best player on the Chiefs offense. Travis Kelce is. The stats show Kelce is carrying Mahomes with his frankly absurd YAC, but you already know that because I patiently explained it to you last week.

Not sure why you'd dismiss NFL-confirmed stats from the Titans @ Chiefs fixture as a "joke" - I don't make the stats up. Didn't make them last week either re Kelce.

He hasn't broken Manning's record yet. He might do, given that he's got Denver and the Raiders to play in December.

He isn't an automatic HoF selection yet.

He's repeatedly choked in AFC championship games, and also in a Superbowl. His best receiver last year, Tyreek Hill, is doing better in Miami than he ever did shackled by Mahomes' limitations.

Lots of questions still to answer. But he's young and he's got the OL and the D to buy him the time he needs to develop.

Hill is on pace for record targets as well let’s not forget that.

And you are assuming YAC is the ultimate arbiter here - not a definitive view by any stretch.

He is automatic HoF I’m not even going to get involved on that debate as there isn’t an argument to be made.
