How would the sports media fill the 24-hour news cycle after Week 1 without kneejerk, hysterical overreactions to a single data point for each team?

They could do actual analysis instead of just yelling all the time. Wouldn’t that be something? Watching guys like Peyton and Romo dissect the game is really fun. Each year ESPN does alternate broadcasts for the CFP where other D1 coaches do the analysis. It’s fascinating.

At some point, I think that true sports fans have to admit that we're the weird ones, and that the highest ratings are generated by having uninformed blowhards verbally cudgel one another like it's Jerry Springer without the fistfights.

There's certainly a market for what we want to see, but it would have to come about as a dedicated approach by a competing media outlet. We're not going to get it from the Worldwide Leader - at least not in quantity.

The good news is that streaming significantly lowers the barriers to entry, so there's a chance.
