Ha, I'm sure he was saying it with tongue in cheek. I'd agree it'd have to have an asterisk next to it, although most teams don't take this seriously anyway.

You're correct Toffeejack, the "Asterisk" was said tongue in cheek but the question asked is a valid one.

I personally would want Spurs to take it a more seriously the later we got into the competition and no matter how much opposition supporters would try and put it down and no matter how tainted it is, it's still a decent day out and a trophy.

Does it still give a Europa place? That would be interesting as on numbers alone it would mean of the 7 who qualify for Europe next year maximum of 6 could re-qualify as one place is for a competition they are not in so at least one would miss out the next year.

Don’t care if we’re the only bloody PL team in it. Want to see us win another trophy. Especially for any fan under-30 who’s never experienced us winning silverware.

So if the 7 teams who finish in the European spots are not going to be entering the competition, would you be happy to win it even though there should be an asterisk next to the winners name?

Why would there be an asterisk next to the winners name?

The rules and the starting teams are decided before the competition starts - no need for an asterisk.

The only way an asterisk would be required is if the competition's rules are changed mid way through the competition, as happened with the premier league and champs leagues this season.

In answer to the question, as I was lucky enough to have witnessed Everton winning trophies (old fart I'm afraid) I want us to win every competition we enter, no matter what teams are in it.

This shouldn't even be up for discussion in my opinion.
The League Cup is a great competition and one which we, as a club, haven't taken seriously enough for many years.
When you look at some of the winners since the 80s, there's no reason we couldn't have won it with a little more emphasis on it, rather than the Premier League being the only priority.
