It really, really isn't mate
It's very possible, just everyone is so risk averse these days that no one has the confidence to try it
And why's that?
It's because in 1995, there wasn't a £5billion TV deal, and the huge bonus of getting in the CL (the prize wasn't as big), and the draw of the Prem to top-quality foreign players wasn't the same as it is now.
You can't tell me the game hasn't changed. It simply has.
I'm not against youth players, I'm all for it. And if they're good enough, Koeman (if indeed he signs) will give them a chance to prove it. But there's no rush to do so in the case of Dowell, Davies etc. Kenny seems most likely to fit in as our possible back-up right-back and I think he'll be given a lot of minutes in pre-season hopefully to prove that.
In the mean-time, the focus will be on getting Barkley fully fit and firing again, getting Del fit and back to his best and to get anywhere near his potential, and to hopefully tie Stones down to a deal and improve him further and probably get Besic to do so as well.
There seems to be this clamour to get a load of academy players involved, but we've got four first-team regulars above (not including Rom as he's almost certainly off), who all need to re-find their best form first.
