Some good points there, but i'm concerned that we may not be able to rectify the damage the Martinez era has done that easily. Some have belittled the achievements Moyes made in getting us fairly regular European trips and a Cup final, but that would be far better than what Martinez has lowered us to.
I can't see us suddenly going from 11th 2 seasons in a row to a 3rd-4th placed finish in the next season or two.
Definitely don't want Moyes back either though. We need to make a statement with this appointment.
I agree. The thing is, the new manager will inherit the spine of a good side, even of Lukaku goes as looks likely. Good young players like Stones, Barkley, Coleman, McCarthy, Besic and Deulofeu who we know can be very good with the right management, a couple of solid senior players like Baines, Lennon, Barry and Jagielka, an enigma like Mirallas who is frustratingly inconsistant, but a good proven player again with the right management etc. The only real gaping holes are in goal and up front, presuming Lukaku leaves, though its still possible he could stay if we get the right manager and/ or his mythical massive club he's signing for arent interested a la Mirallas last summer. No doubt we will need a few signings, but it's a good solid foundation for a new manager to come in and build from. I certainly dont expect instant success next season, whoever the new man is, but progression first.
