Not everyone is cut from the same cloth though are they? Some in their very nature find it hard to be motivational, some just don't have it in them.

Maybe this is one area which stops Pellegrini going from a good manager, to being one of the great managers?

Perhaps he has other areas he excels in. Maybe he's a very good tactician, maybe he's a great man manager who is great at putting his arm around struggling players.

Every coach has strengths and weaknesses.

I also did say that maybe his demeanour in public is misleading and perhaps he is a good motivator.

What I did say was that APPEARS to not be very good at it.

At least it's not blindingly obvious to me.

I bet he's taken a team talk in his career when his team has been losing at half time and they've won.

I don't know when. But I'm certain of it. Probably even at City.

Though I'm all for that, it'll take a while for him to get our players up to the level of fitness required to do that properly

Will the fan base have the patience for a slow-build at this point?

I think someone like Koeman or Pellegrini could come in and it would be a smoother transition

But then again, I want Loew and he hasn't managed at club level for years. There'd be much adapting to be done in that period

I think people are just uneasy about De Boer because he's unproven

I personally think winning the Dutch League is nothing to be sniffed at, and just because the standard is lower than the English League doesn't mean what works there won't also work here, but I can also see why others are pensive on the matter
Not necessarily. Ajax were in a pretty bad state and he took them to the title after taking them over in December plus they will have a whole pre-season so fitness shouldn't be a concern. I think the biggest problem will be the fans too however when Emery drops Deulofeu and Mirallas for Cleverly and Lennon how long are the fans going to stick with him. Ultimately the fans will be happy if we're winning. I don't think style matters that much. They certainly weren't unhappy with Martinez in his first year.

Just watched a clip from the Derby that a red put up on Facebook.

My God how bad have we been? The players were being told clearly keep their position in defence so 2 rows of 4 players were not even being told to check the Liverpool players. It was that embarrassing, Liverpool moved about and the defenders held their position even if starring or whoever moved elsewhere.
He basically ruined our full backs with his tactics

The City players have also looked less interested than us at times since he's been there and I'm talking pre Pep announcement.

First person to win 4 titles in a row with Ajax after taking them over in a shambles. He has had a mixed time in Europe. He has disappointed in the Europa league but has been unlucky in the champions league. e.g. Ajax beat Barca without just parking the bus.
Style is a mixture of Cruyff and Van Gaal. The organization of Van Gaal with the individual flair of Cruyff.
He employs the method of pressing the ball 3 seconds after losing it and often plays with a high press similar to Pochitino and Guardiola.
Plays with two direct wingers and 2 box to box midfielders with one holder who also is used to dictate the game.
Has brought through a number of top players at Ajax including Suarez and Eriksen. Will probably know the Dutch market very well and could attract upcoming Ajax players like Bazoer.
Defensively strong and they score a load of goals.
Will trust, play and be a good mentor for the kids from our academy who are ready to come through. All his previous players speak highly of him.
Will continue the good work of Martinez without throwing it all away and having to start again.

I think that might be the bit that has me feeling skeptical. That was what Martinez was aiming for too, but as we know from his time with us, when you don't get the balance right it can make for some horrible viewing. I have a suspicion that he's too similar to Martinez, and I'm not sure that patient possession football really clicks with us.

I think you hit the nail on the head. That is what Martinez was aiming for however the problem with Martinez is that it was a pale imitation. De Boer learnt it from both the people who created it just like Guardiola. He's not a cheap knockoff that at first looks like the real deal but in a short time you start seeing the horrible flaws until the whole thing comes apart.

As you've just mentioned Liverpool, anyone else think it's ironic that many reds accuse us of being "obsessed" with them, when you take a glance at RAWK and see a 578 page thread titled " The Everton Topic"?

A Google search also sees many other Everton threads in the past that have long since been locked.
