Next Gen consoles - PS4/Xbox One

Hopefully my Xbox One will arrive on Friday, looking forward to playing Forza and BF4, getting FIFA some time next week.

Main reason why I wanted an Xbox so much was down to playing with my mates who I've know for around 5-6 years and software. UI looks a lot better on it also.

There's no doubt that the PS4 has the better hardware, with it being cheaper as well you do get a really good deal buying one.

However after the reversals they made just after E3 I'm glad I stuck with the Xbox One as I really didn't want to move platforms, I will probably end up buying one next year though.
The PS4 Controller didn't impressive me overall to be honest, haven't played on the Xbox One controller though, but looks like an improvement from the 360's.

The 360 isn't going to become obsolete overnight, so reckon I'll be doing the same mate.

True that. I spotted Max Payne 3 on Tesco for a fiver, plus a few other games I've been meaning to play, so it's got plenty of life in it yet. Then I plan on getting a PS3 for peanuts to play all the Uncharted games I've missed.

Just got my copy of The Last Of Us back after a very long time of lending it to a workmate. I'd totally forgotten the controls and the level layout ( this is my second time through!) really can't wait for the DLC now I've started playing single player again. When's it meant to be out?

2 Nvidia TITANS SLI'd and you still would struggle to get 60fps with BF4 at 4k

2 R9 290X's. Running in über mode. That'll do the trick for $1100 USD.

You'd probably get a noise complaint for running a rig like that, though.

It took 4 GTX Titan's in SLI to break 60fps in Metro 2033 (max detail, 4k)!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And those same 4 Titan's could break 60fps in Sleeping Dogs.

Yep, that is $4k worth of product to play games at a decent clip at 4k.

Interesting to see some of the comparisons between PS3 and PS4 now that the '4 is released.

OK, so YouTube & capturing software probably narrows the real gap somewhat but I mean.. come on, if you weren't aware that there was a new generation of hardware being launched then.. well, you wouldn't be aware, just looking at the graphics.

Obviously they are better, but graphical fidelity is leveling off at a big rate now. Even if these consoles are many times more powerful than their predecessors, what does that actually mean for discernable differences? The jumps between each generation of hardware are seeing diminishing returns, at least graphics-wise.

The PS1/Saturn/N64 were the first generation of 3D machines, and they were groundbreaking, then with the PS2/XB/Dreamcast you got an immediate "wow" increase as the polygon count went up and you got much more realistic modelling, then with 360/PS3 they took the jump to HD, but with this generation all you are getting is slightly better resolution and lighting definition.

Take a look at NBA 2K14. That makes a BIG jump graphically from the current gen (on which it still looks pretty good)

Just checked it out and it really is quite a big jump. The player models are incredible...

Yup, I have to conceed it is visually noticeable even to the untrained eye:

That review puts me off the XBone even more. Aesthetically terrible. I absolutely detest the Windows 8 style layout as well.

Everything feels gimmicky and stupid. The voice commands look really limited and irritating. I don't care about being able to turn the console on by voice, yet for some odd reason that's apparently a major selling point? And, going by that video, it still doesn't work properly; the room has to be silent for it to work. Marvellous. An "entertainment system" that doesn't work if there's music on in the background? Good job Microsoft.

The quote from that review - "the biggest new thing is Live TV" - says it all. Live TV isn't new. It's a gimmick that is redundant from the offset. No gamer will give a rats arse.
