My fave player at the time, even in the years before he came to Goodison. Was made up when I heard we were signing him.

I doubt that.….Dave might start liking him again![]()
Bad timesThree years ago today lampard sacked
Hard to forget the terrified look on his face at that travel lodgeBad times
We stayed up in spite of him. He cared, but he was useless, the captain of the ship in name only, the mast was shattered, the oars thrown over, adrift. The crowd willed that side over the line, a crowd that'd had to do it previous. "Had to do".He should never have been appointed. A lovely man, with clearly a football brain. But we were a horrific mess at that point in time - he did well to keep us up.

Was afforded a tenure to long, and yet somehow isn't the worst of a very bad bunch. Not even top three.
We've been an insult to the badge and the club it represents for a long time. benitez, koeman, allardyce, martinez.
What a rogues gallery. Histories most unwanted.
He's had a leg up at Coventry for me, add in they finally secured their new permanent home and the feel good factor was there. I believe he's also benefitted from a complimentary signing/loan arrangement so has some of the better players in the division. Looks like they'll get promotion and by a distance, good for them, but they'll be miles off PL quality next year. Only need to look at burnleys record setter last year to see what the gap really means. It was too much, too soon for him.
He needed to be at club like Coventry, where the initial expectations were nothing more than, to steady the ship and slowly build.
You only have to look at what he`s doing there now, to see that he has all the potential to become a top class manager.
The boiling cauldron that was Everton at the time, just wasn`t the right club for a young and relatively inexperienced manager.
Benitez was without doubt the single worst appointment as manager that the club have ever made.
