The Ledson who captained England u17s to their Euros win was way ahead of his age in terms of reading the game, positioning and captaincy. Sadly his pure football skills were not at the same level , and as others matured they developed the skills he had and overtook him . I remember him being on the bench as a 16 year old in a PL game. ( Southampton?) but he never got on , perhaps a turning point in his career.

Was go all out and make sure we signed Nige as a direct and immediate replacement for Big Nev in a smooth transition.

The most Everton thing in the world was to let him go and speak to Leeds, spend years signing goalkeepers not fit to lace Martyn’s gloves, then go back and sign him towards the end of his career
