As if the premier league has any power to do this. Enough money gets thrown about and they bow down like everyone else. I struggle to know what they actually do. Newcastle fans were calling them all corrupt before their takeover went through.

Surely there must be some sort of loophole which would still allow nation states to own clubs, i.e. through some sort of third party.

Having said that, the league could still do due diligence on ownership of all clubs to determine whether or not there is any nation state involvement.
