1 point out of 9 season for me is derailed.

We haven't the mentality to go on a 5+ game winning streak to make up for it and injuries leave us with the same cowards of last season dragging us back down the table.

You cant lose to Newcastle and Southampton and have hopes of finishing top 4 for me.

We were on a 4 game winning streak before the Derby, it is doable, especially when we have Coleman, Holgate, Digne, James and Richarlison all due back across the next two games. The season isn’t dead, not by a long shot

Agree, however it’s not totally unreasonable to expect some of them to play up a bit given the new additions/competition in the squad.

I think we’ve seen it to an extent with Siggy but Gomes, for example, continues to be utterly useless.

I think I said in another post that one of them coming in here and there is manageable, but to have FOUR key players out and expect several to step up, will not work.

No offence to Niels, I thought he did okay from memory.

As we have found out, it takes multiple transfer windows to fix a single poor one. We've got some genuine quality in the team when everybody is available but at the same time we must have one of the most drastic downturns in quality when we have to rely on the squad.

It's still a good start to the season, need to dust ourselves down and beat Utd next Saturday.

Ultimately, it still is. But yes we are dropping off quickly.

While I agree the issue is the players (and management today was crap), that comes down to us not having enough quality options.

We needed options and after our start to the season it was worth the financial risk.

I really just think Brands treats it like he's at PSV, where he could take those risks with the squad knowing they'd still finish in a European place at the least. He's done it for three seasons now and it's utterly daft.

Brands needs to go ASAP. Having Carlo answer to someone who knows far less than him about football is bonkers.

Brands signings have held us back. Lots of rubbish ineffective technical players with no guts to play Premier league football.

The players make me angry. They aren't everton players.

Sad thing is that was almost certainly our last chance to go back top this season. Glancing at the table there are 4 or 5 teams who can go above us with equal games played.

We were never going to win the league but it'll feel horrible if we slip away week by week back into a fight for 7/8th which could start this week if spurs and Leicester win.

If we beat Man United we will go top again.

you are joking about delph aren’t you? He is so slow in possession it has me screaming and waking everyone in the house up

He kept the ball moving. Lets face it, nobody in that midfield three had ANYONE to go to the entire game.

I'm not saying he's beckenbauer reborn, but he's an alright player despite being a complete nob.

Said it when we were doing well. We will probably finish in the top ten. We have too many average and slow players. No invention when James is out. No threat up front when Richy is out.
DCL is a poacher get the ball in and he will get on the end of it
Midfield full of slow players who can pass sideways. Siggy,. Bernard gomes can all go. Never know what to make of Iwobi. But he got crosses in and we scored
We need to build up our squad in the next couple of seasons and get rid of the deadwood
Poor selection by Carlo today but it happens. But we do need pace throughout the team. Our play when James and Richy are out is so slow.
But top 10 for me is the best we can do then bring better players in
We should be aiming for EL places minimum 6th/7th but yes our squad depth is poor we need hope for better luck with our first team until January than add two more.

Sort yourselves out eh lads. We are second in the table at the start of November; it's not all gloom and doom for goodness sake, it really isn't.

I felt that Robin Olsen was MotM. He prevented us from being completely embarrassed by making a couple of decent saves.

Delph looked class today.

Olsen looks promising.

Micheal Kean is steady

Iwobi did more in 20 minutes today than 45 last week.

Newcastle showed us a lot of respect by upping their game to contain us. They were well organised. But Ultimately they couldn’t contain that element of self doubt when we came at them in extra time
It’s just a shame we left it so late.

Perhaps the team selection was a little dubious, but Carlo will have had his reasons. Kenny and Gordon sharing a pitch for instance, was probably a step too far. He was right in that regard.

And of course, that penalty was never such, hence the protracted amount of time for a decision to be reached. The VAR team had to be seen to support their colleague on the pitch.

Even with so much talent missing, I feel he can still get a tune out of them.

Don’t write us off just yet.

Outside of Richarlson we lack any pace, without James we lack any vision, today we set up poorly,I expected Doucoure to be a link between the midfield and DCL,the midfield was full of one pace players, neither fullbacks got forward nearly enough,Newcastle are poor, unfortunately, out side of the first 11 we lack any real quality

The last two matches have to set off alarm bells

The sides he’s picked, the tactics and the fact he can’t motivate this lot are all a worry

Or we can bury our heads in the sand and pretend we are going to win the league
The side he’s picked has been dictated by injuries and suspensions.

If you don’t want Ancelotti you are in a massive minority and read like a WUM.

I think the injuries are important caveats, but we have to be frank that they are also not ample in an ability to create consistently. We can look stagnant and dangerously reliant on Richi's work rate and Digne's and recently Colemans accuracy in supply. James obviously is the X factor to which masks a lot of that lack of consistent chances. All those players credit they know its going to only be handful of real chances that offer goals. Sadly the majority of this squad doesn't seem to realize that.

That said with them out Carlo has to see some warning signs in a match like this and from last year. Allan today was the only one marginally beating a man and remotely capable of breaking lines (maybe with exception of the subs). He looked nervous committing that far down pitch but its clear he is more apt thanGylfi or the whole of the front players in actually forcing an action. I think Doucoure is reliant on a running mate to showcase smart decisions in the final third. Come this many starters out which will appear again over the course of this season, we and Carlo have to look at the facts.

The likes of Gomes and Gylfi will not lead any offense. Delph, Davies even abdoulaye aren't going to travel forward without a level of assurance. And Iwobi and Bernard are not economic with their touches and horribly unreliable. With such facts if that means playing Allan in the 10 with such absences, than so be it. But the lack of decisive decision makers and creativity is horrifically apparent. Either a full switch up in players roles when our best are out or a strict overhaul in being economically vigilant with 2 or 3 chances based on counters has to take place. But the time of pretending we have sub creators on our bench that can break play with skill is a complete mirage. Moving forward we have to admit that.

I agree in the main, but it comes back to our options not being good enough.

This season is - still - a season where we could challenge for something, but the people in charge of transfers decided to take a risk and that has already come back to bite us in the space of three weeks. It's abysmal squad management.

How do you mean?

Most realistic assessment by anyone who witnessed that.
