Newcastle new date,Tuesday 25 March

Just got this from a fantasy football forum where possible future "double game weeks" for ourselves were being worked out.

As it's now been announced that Everton are playing Newcastle away on the 25th March rather than the Palace home game, it's possible to deduce from the dates available that the Palace game will now probably be rearranged for midweek Tues/Wed 15th/16th April.

The only other possible dates are right at the end of the season and would make it the penultimate match of the season, being played on the midweek of Tues/Wed 6th/7th May.

I think if Everton beat Arsenal then their league game on semis weekend would be played in May, but if they go out then they'll have a choice of playing Palace in either the April or May dates specified above.

I am extremely surprised that they have announced this date now, because if the Arsenal game were to go to a replay, I have no idea at all when it would be played. March 25th would have been the only logical date for a replay.

As far as a possible replay goes:

It could not be played the midweek of March 11/12/13 as that is a European week (that Arsenal are playing in).
It could not be played on Monday March 17th, as Arsenal play Spurs the previous day.
It could not be played the midweek of March 18/19/20 as that is a European week.
It could have been played on Tuesday March 25, but now the Newcastle vs Everton game is on that date.
It could not be played on Monday March 31st, as Everton play Fulham away the previous day.
It could not be played the midweek of April 1/2/3 as that is a European week.
It could not be played on Monday April 7th, as Everton play Arsenal at home in the league the previous day.
It could not be played the midweek of April 8/9/10 as that is a European week.

The FA Cup Semi Final scheduled for April 12/13.

About the only dates available for a possible replay would be Thursday March 27/Friday March 28, or Friday April 4th, which would be 2 days before we would be scheduled play Arsenal in the league. It would be 8 days before the FA Cup Semi Final weekend, and Arsenal availability for that date is also dependent on Bayern Munich knocking Arsenal out of the CL.

So in short, if the Arsenal FA Cup game goes to a replay, a league game will have to be moved (and that creates another problem in itself), or we play 2 days before a league game on Friday night April 4th.

I would have thought before the announcement that in the event of a replay then it would have had to have been played on March 25th too. I wonder can they move the Newcastle game to the April 15th or 16th as if they can then I think they'll do it.

Two things to note here:-

Liverpool are at home on Wed 26th March, and I suspect the policing came into it as the reason why we rearranged an away game at Newcastle rather than the Palace game for the preceding day.

The same considerations would come into the equation with any potential replay and hence I suspect the Newcastle game was going to be March 25th whatever the outcome in the cup. This being the case it's safe going ahead and selling the allocation.

Thus if there's a replay the potential postponement of another fixture looks inevitable, and in the event of us winning the replay then we would be facing the real prospect of having to play three matches in the final week of the season.

This is really because there is only one week in April and one in May available and with the semi weekend game postponement plus the postponed league fixture for the Arsenal replay plus the Palace home game to rearrange, one week probably the May one would involve two midweek games.

(shakes head) I can watch each and every game of my local Arena Footie team, but L4 is on media blackout for an Everton fixture in geordieland? Practically third world, this.

I'd revolt. No wonder you've all been disarmed.

Anyway, back on topic. Newcastle away. We will snot them and the atmosphere shall be boss.

What you having for tea mate ?

I forgot to mention we also probably won't be playing on April 15th, as Liverpool are holding their 25th anniversary of Hillsbororo memorial service at Anfield that day, and Roberto Martinez has already been announced as one of the readers.

Bill and I agree on almost everything - with the exception of the Chicago Cubs. He's dead sound on everything else (and is actually dead sound on most of what he said about the horrors of 2003. I said the same to the "Cubs Nation" at the time - as did many others inside the tent.)

From your lips to God's ears, lid. Snot them we will.
