I admit I don't know the rules, but I don't think VAR intervenes for incidents like free kicks, corners, or throw ins, unless they precede major incidents like a goal, or penalty.

They don't do for corners and throw ins at all, also not if they notice it wasn't a corner at all followed by a goal

With free kicks they only intervene in a few cases:

Outside or inside the box. For example if it's a foul given outside the box, but should be a pen or the other way round. And if it's a foul that should be followed by red card.

In this case, they probably recognized the foul and verified if it was inside or outside. It was imo a foul that should be followed by a yellow. So inside the box they would intervene, but as it was slightly outside they didn't.
