New PL TV Deal 2019 - 2022.

Neiler

Player Valuation: £100m
The new TV rights deal for Sky and BT has been announced today.

Sky and BT are paying just under a billion less for the same packages then they did when the last TV deal was announced. There are two minor packages still out for tender but the strong suspicion is that they haven’t been sold because no one was willing to pay the asking price.

It’s expected that the new oversees rights deal is likely to be higher to the last and could make up the almost billion shortfall.

Has the PL reached saturation point both with exposure and finance?

What will this mean for the league in a footballing sense?

Interesting times.

Bubble bursting domestically at least?

Neither Sky or BT can be throwing as much money as they were, both struggling a little with regards losing subs on a massive scale.

But thats down to greed, I pay for Virgin, mainly cos the missus insists, I dont watch tele myself, but they want 35 notes a month for Sky Sports, which isnt an amazing amount of money, but its more than im willing to pay, especially when I can sometimes source the game elsewhere...........

Basically until Amazon or Facebook get involved, it will probably go down, but the clubs wont really care, with the overseas price increase I cant see it harming their bottom line, yet.

It’s a threading water scenario, but a precedent set, it’s the first time the price hasn’t rocketed up, the reversing of the trend is significant, if the PL is leveling of that could have impact on clubs in all aspects of the league, perhaps even the power across European leagues.

The UK is also heading into a period of financial and political instability.

Much like Brexit, could be soft or hard.

BT are paying more per game than the previous deal, SKY just a bit under. When those two packages that are remaining are sold it won't be far off (or may even be a bit ahead) what they were paid last time around albeit this is with more games being shown.

Hardly doom and gloom, but I think we are starting to hit a peak of what anyone will pay for the rights.

If reports that the final two packages were not sold because they did not meet the reserve price, then we may actually see an overall decrease.
They will sell for near enough reserve price eventually
Overseas deal will bring the total to more than last deal.
It seems to me that Sky and BT have come to an agreement between them to keep prices and packages the same.
They now share content as well

I think likes of Netflix, Facebook not trying to buy those four packages had a part to play in the decrease. In three years time, they might come in and start a bidding war.
