I hate gambling personally having seen what it did to a close pal.

However we may have to hold our noses and go with Sportpesa if that is the best deal at this time. They seem to have a commitment to community and to development of the game in East Africa if that is any consolation.

I would absolutely hate if it was a loan shark payday loan company - that would seriously go against everything this club should stand for.

What irks me is the way in which gambling advertising has been allowed to takeover practically all aspects of football viewing. Even to the point were by reading a football article will trigger betting site/app adverts. Alcohol and Tabacco advertising has been brought under control. Why allow betting to take their combined place when it can be equally as devestating to families. A fella by me died a couple of weeks ago. My mum was talking to his wife the other day asking how she and their 18 year old were getting on. His wife told her that her husband had left her with so much unknown about gambling debt she was going to loose everything and that the only reason she hadn't killed herself yet was their daughter. But yer, Ray Winston says it's sound so it must be

I'm slightly confused why so many people are up in arms at the idea of a gambling company sponsoring us, when we've had an alcohol one on the front of our shirt for years.

Want to compare the numbers on which one ruins more lives?
It's a personal choice for me mate, I'm a compulsive gambler so don't want us to be sponsored by a betting company and won't be buying a shirt. I would feel as much sympathy for alcoholics who wouldn't buy shirt with our current sponsors.

Totally agree with this.! Gambling needs to have a watershed for advertising just like alcohol and cigarettes.

Exactly this Robert. My mate lost his home a car and eventually his job. He is also a heavy drinker , and I know alcohol can be devastating, but gambling has no physical limits - hard to blow thousands in one day drinking.

As regards other sponsorships it is arguable that most major corporations have a slightly dark ethical side so we can't be too choosey I suppose.

I'm not bothered what industry the sponsor is in as long as they pay top whack to get on our shirt (and it's not a Wonga type brand).

The design of the sponsor's logo is important though from a commercial point of view, and if they are our main shirt sponsor I hope they do what Chang did and change their logo to work with the shirt.

For example this on our shirt would look terrible:

But this would look much better IMO (especially on an Adidas design instead of Umbro lol):

Sorry to hear about your friend mate. That's a great point about the spending limits. If you've never watched the panorama on those roulette terminals I highly recommend it mate. Heartbreaking stuff. Il be honest I'm not against gambling, I don't do it myself. I don't think it should be banned because an unfortunate few are caught up in it for whatever reason. I do however think the way it's forced onto people's televisions, phones, radios, tablets, poster boards etc should be massively brought in line and education and support should be at the forefront of tackling it. Not meaningless warnings where it's already to late. It is what it is, a bet. They don't need to glamorise it like it's some unbelievable day out with the lads down the boozer on the perfect day out
