New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

I must have missed the reason for digging up the pitch. Can anyone explain, thanks……

The initial surface, installed to enable the first two successful test events to take place, is being taken up later this week.

Re-stitching, renovation and re-seeding of the SIS hybrid pitch will then take place to ensure Everton has a world-class playing surface for the start of the 2025/26 season.

Alix Waldron, Director of New Stadium Development at Everton, said: “The work is identical to the normal refurbishment of the playing surface that we would normally do at Goodison every year.

“The pitch grown over the winter, specifically for the first two test events, was always planned to be removed. This is to allow us to nurture a new surface during springtime, when conditions are far more conducive for growing a world-class pitch.”

The existing surface will be sprayed with a grass killer this week, as groundworks commence.

The surface will then be dug back to the lower root zone before its layers are built up again. The SIS fibres that were originally stitched are left in throughout this process.

The third and final test event, which will allow the Club to secure the required safety certificate and licence to operate at full capacity, will be played on the re-laid pitch.

The date and time of the third test event will be confirmed in due course.

Thanks….

I think lots of people questioned the idea when it was just a rumour. Myself included in that group, just doesn't make much sense spending all that money stitching it, then ripping it up to start again.
Still not entirely clear to what extent they are ‘replacing it’ anyway.
May well just be the top layer of grass and the Desso / SIS fibres are still there.
Semantics maybe, be but ‘the pitch’ is quite a bit more than the top layer of grass.

In depth article of how the stadium was built from concept to completion. Being a part of the project, reading this reaffirmed what a good job was done by all parties even the club.

Can’t remember who it was, but I posted on here a while back that the pitch was being taken up again and someone swore blind that wasn’t happening.
That was me, but you're misquoting me.

The Echo and other outlets reported that it was being ripped up and replaced, I said that's not quite accurate and that it was being renovated and that had been the plan the entire time, long before a ball was kicked on the surface by the kids.

I have absolutely zero ITK status and know absolutely nothing about grass, but I do know this tidbit for absolute certain.

New hospitality area 'Howard Kendall' suite at Collingwood Dock. Interesting.

Misleading that Howardkendallsuite pic,
Theres no way you'll be able to access that dockside down those steps.
Theres 3 pitches there that are were liverpool canoe/kayak club (FoA) play and train.
FoA provide 3/4 of the mens and womens GB team,
They're not going to let a load of drinkers stand at the water side while events are going on.
The GB team hold training camps there too
