I must have missed the reason for digging up the pitch. Can anyone explain, thanks……
The initial surface, installed to enable the first two successful test events to take place, is being taken up later this week.
Re-stitching, renovation and re-seeding of the SIS hybrid pitch will then take place to ensure Everton has a world-class playing surface for the start of the 2025/26 season.
Alix Waldron, Director of New Stadium Development at Everton, said: “The work is identical to the normal refurbishment of the playing surface that we would normally do at Goodison every year.
“The pitch grown over the winter, specifically for the first two test events, was always planned to be removed. This is to allow us to nurture a new surface during springtime, when conditions are far more conducive for growing a world-class pitch.”
The existing surface will be sprayed with a grass killer this week, as groundworks commence.
The surface will then be dug back to the lower root zone before its layers are built up again. The SIS fibres that were originally stitched are left in throughout this process.
The third and final test event, which will allow the Club to secure the required safety certificate and licence to operate at full capacity, will be played on the re-laid pitch.
The date and time of the third test event will be confirmed in due course.
