New Everton Stadium - Hill Dickinson Stadium

It's the siphonic drainage. It's designed to carry huge volumes of water and is used on pretty much all large commercial roof areas to limit the number of downpipes.

Problem being that if there is ever a failure of the system, like this for whatever reason, those huge volumes of water can cause quite severe flooding.

Should have a mechanism to open up a gap in the cladding of the South stand roof to let the excess water run out that way, instead of overflowing the gully and spilling inside.

Talking of stadium porn: heads up for 9pm Thursday, National Geographic channel.

Wow. Just finished watching that and I've never seen anything like it.

A miracle of engineering. Stunning.

Must watch.

Cost a fortune to maintain, we've seen the seven wonders of scouseland with the rotary restaurant ( the ashtray ) in St. John's beacon,
only for the bearings to seize up over time.
It looked like that to me too: too many moving parts.

The pitch being dropped in pieces below the surface to about 6 chambers - one on top of the other - and a special grass grown for it to be maintained is unreal. All to use the Bernabeu as an entertainment complex.

1.1 billion euro and 5 years of work.

They even had a game against Liverpool months before the official opening...presumably to make it Kopite-proof - the ultimate stress test.
