Spurs supporters were not asked thier view on any part of the new stadium being built but I'm sure the single stand option was put forward to the club as something the fans would want (have no idea who by but I'm glad that opinion was listened to.)
Hmm, interesting there was no consultation, do spurs fans not like that? I'm sure it's not as big a deal as the stadium designed is alright but there would have been uproar of it turned out to be crap with no fan consultation.
To clarify, the idea of a single tier stand came after fan feedback on the original KSS design (possibly through the Trust?). The club, to their credit, then asked KSS to remodel their design based directly on this feedback. So it went from
this in 2008 to
this in 2009. KSS were later dropped and we ended up with a
much superior Populous design with a much bigger single tier end, better integrated.
It's also not true to say there was no consultation. The consultation was never as direct as what EFC and Meis are doing (and direct questions like "what do you want the capacity to be?" were never asked). But there were surveys about the stadium sent out over the years asking about different options for what should be in the stadium, how likely you were to buy a ticket if xyz, room for other comments etc. I'm sure a lot of that fed into what Populous came up with, even if we don't know how (as far as I know results were never published).
I
really like how engaged Meis is being about design and aesthetics for BMD, and even if it looks like he's managing expectations a bit (and sometimes comes across as a bit fake), what he's doing is still going the extra mile. I am a little surprised Everton are asking questions like "what do you want the capacity to be?" though. Surely that's something for them to work out rather than getting fans to pluck numbers from the air. But getting fans engaged with the actual design is pretty impressive. Hopefully it all proves worth it in the end.
