Maybe it’s because they tried the up and coming manager approach with Silva and that back fired massively?
I would also like to see us go down that route again but let’s be honest, if after 7/8 months things are t looking great they’ll be shown the door. This is the problem at the club, both the board and the fans mostly are trigger happy. Managers won’t be afforded time, even though a major rebuild is necessary.
Any young up and coming manager would probably think twice about taking on this beast.
I just don't understand this idea at all. Something failing once is not reason to throw the baby out with the bathwater - the established name approach has failed 3 times so far but for some reason people still think thats the way to go? It's harsh to say Silva 'backfired massively' too, in his only full season he finished higher than the great Carlo who people thought was sent from Heaven to have his feet kissed by us peasants. He wasn't the right manager for us but he did no worse than anyone else.
The fans will be patient if they have something to believe in. They were patient with
Moyes, and even with Martinez (he got about 2 1/2 years before the tide turned, and taking us from top 6 to consecutive 11ths was quite the fall let's not forget). They aren't patient at the moment because the club doesn't do or say the right things. You can't say you have a small window to achieve success and then say you want people to be patient, you can't sack managers every time you hit a bad run and say you want people to be patient, you can't sign a load of 29/30 year olds and say wait 3 years for it to come good. If the board started doing things the right way the fans would follow their lead, and if they didn't then the board could say just pipe down we're not rushing it so ranting and raving won't help. They clearly aren't averse to the idea of doing that, seeing as they're willing to ride roughshod over fan opinion in this case.
