….I can only guess that the strategy is not to have any more managerial turmoil whilst the ground is being developed. Moshiri wants the team nice and safe and if that means European qualification and decent runs in the cup, then all the better.
He won’t want risk, he won’t be wanting to go through this process every 18months. I think he’ll be wary of a bright young progressive type who wants to build a new team.
That seems exactly that. I'd add a couple of extra things in. Firstly to have some continuity from last season. Benitez is not going to try and implement a massively different style and there really shouldn't be a massive handover period difficulty. He may also be of the view you need to have a certain level of experience, maturity, age and winning expertise to handle the unique pressures of the club. Perhaps even getting some name recognition to potentially attract players.
It wouldn't be how I would do it, but it's clearly his plan. I am always drawn to his "hollywood manager" phrase, which always felt quite odd, but clearly he wants a big name in charge.
