Was thinking about this over the past couple of days. Due to the young players we have coming through then would it be a blessing in disguise to finish 5th? Possibly sacrificing a season but giving our youth match practice which could stand us in good stead in 2015/16.

I don't think it would be a blessing in disguise tbh because qualifying for the champions league would transform the club due to the extra income.

We are a couple of seasons away from that level though imo

Yeah 4th Is like thw holy grail. But I was meaning 5th and europa rather than 6th and no europa.

Junior will struggle to play above League 1. Really not got much about him.

No not yet, he's quality mate, we don't play our style nearly as well without him.

Conor Grant was another midfielder who caught Roberto's eye when he joined in the summer and got some playing time with the first team. He has been out injured, but maybe he could be one of a few hopefully to make the break through.

Lundstram has been on loan at Yeovil along with Duffy in the championship - doing fairly well (15 apps 2 goals)

IMO will probably be reloaned next year - He has just turned 20.

Junior won't make it here - unfortunately he went on a year loan to a Dutch side who then got loaned a fair chunk of Chelsea's youth including people in his position so not gotten a lot of game time.

Ledson (16) and Green (17) are much younger still a couple of years away from being considered for the first team.

However we could well have Barkley, McCarthy, Ledson and Lundstram all around the CM positions in 3 years or so
Green if he makes it will be more on an Attacking mid - prob playing on the right and cutting in but definitely further forward than CM

..so Barkley isn't a proper no10. Seems ok to me in there.

We need a creative midfielder more than anything. We don't need cover for central midfield, we need players who are better than what we already have. Barry and McCarthy aren't top 4 standard.

No hes not, he does a good job there but hasnt got enough finesse at the minute, poor decision making at times too, think he'll end up deeper

I think he is better when he is able to run at people - further up the pitch he is a bit constrained.

Green actually just turned 18 on 2nd january. Hopefully we got to see him cotinuing to progress until the end lf the season.

Barry may be getting on a bit now bit he's been top 4 quality until he began to tire the last couple of games. McCarthy himself is going to be a superstar in another season.
