NEVILLE: the best bunch of lads I have ever played with.

I'm not entirely sure where the animosity is coming from here. What has Neville done to earn the wrath of people around here? Say something positive and optimistic? I'm all for raging at the club when they lay a steaming pile of crap on the pitch but moaning and bitching over every little thing seems a tad overzealous.

Regarding his rumored move to Spurs, can someone provide a link to where he says he wanted to leave and wasn't allowed to? I thought he wanted to stay at Everton.

Its a completely made up story, and people believe it because they are fools. Neville has been the most professional player we have had at Everton and people cant wait to have a rant against him. Unbelievable

What can you say? Our squad gets top marks for character again. Considering the likes that Neville has played with, its a ringing endorsement. Top Captain. And Baines rightly picking up the plaudits for being the best left back in the premier league.

All in, a disappointing season despite a half decent finish. Some moments of glory, and I'm glad that Phil pointed to the fans performance in the City game, kind of reiterated what i said in another thread.

Hopefully with some shrewd acquisitions and a few step ups from the youth squad (I'm looking at you Ross Barkley) we can push on.

Let's be positive. It's still a grand old team to support.

A nice positive post, about a good interview and people still manage to moan and complain. Anyway hes a top professional, knows what to say to the media, and is the most professional player Everton have had on and off the pitch. He's perfect for Everton, because he seems the link between Moyes and the team, professional yet still jokes around with all the players. Doesnt half to alot for the atmosphere.

you would've scored more GOT points if you'd have called Neville a cünt.

whatever. Why be positive? Most people on this forum, their cyncism obviously masks a masterful intellect that I cannot begin to comprehend and i should forget trying to look for like minded souls who enjoy all things everton, here on an Everton forum.

You'd get more positive stuff about everton on friggin RAWK these days.

Wash my hands with the lot of you.

If you lot are Everton fans, honestly. Have a ****ing word with yourselfs. We are meant to have character.

Most Liverpool fans support their team better than the shower of sh!te on here these days.

Bunch of no marks.

When did this become a forum to exclusively denigrate the club and its players?

It's a grand old team to support?

My arse.

100% agree with everything (y)

Only just seen this thread.

Let’s just say you wrote what I was going to put, job well done.

Don't get down Leon lad, plenty of people like you on here. Alio's even got the pitch fork's out!!!!

Glass should always be half full.

As I've said before Everton used to be my life when I was younger, now it is my escape from real life and therefore why make it depressing!!!!!

I'm goin to physically harm the next person to refer to Neville as 'top professional'.

It's not even about that for me - as I said in a thread this week I think 7th would be a great league position this year. I predicted 8th at the start of the season so it's above expectations for me.

No, my problem is with Phil Neville using the media again to lie to fans. He isn't an Evertonian, he would leave the club at the drop of a hat for more money, so why doesn't he just be bloody honest.

He's a good captain, he gives what he can on the pitch, but the man is a bloody idiot and an egotist where the media is concerned.

Compare Baines' comments to Nevilles. Baines thanks his teammates, which is correct and fine, whereas Neville has to throw his media titbit to the fans again. It's disingenuous, sickening and nonsensical.

This is Phil Neville in a nutshell.

A complete and utter phoney who's pissing down the leg of fans and telling them it's raining. And some people believe him. We have some incredibly naive fans.

He's a charlatan.

He may love the club, just not as much as United, he has never denied that he doesnt support United, and it may be unbelievable, but you can support more than one club.

...

First, prove it? Second, who wouldnt? Pay rise, better club, better aspirations - or atleast more realistic. Whats the point in supporting Everton if you dont trust any player? That is just silly.

You know, that's exactly what I'm saying. I accept that footballers chase the wage. I would! But I wouldn't play the "fans hero" act like Neville does.

I've said it before - good captain, gives it all on the pitch, but not an Evertonian, don't mind at all that he isn't, as long as he quits pretending he is.

I'm an Evertonian who supports whoever currently wears the blue shirt, because football has changed since the Premier League era started. Every player has his price, and if you hold someone up as a hero you're preparing yourself to be burned badly.

See Barmby, Rooney etc. for details.

As for proof, I can't find an actual link, but he definitely confirmed a bid from Spurs was on the table, it was refused by Everton and he was too professional to push the matter. Basically, because the Spurs bid was ludicrously low, the transfer couldn't be pushed through by the player - similar to if Messi really, really wanted to go to Hull for some reason but they offered £2m for him!

I'll have a look around for a link later.

Ahhh here we are. Proof. :)

Neville said: “The Tottenham thing didn’t get close because Everton said ‘no’ and I respected that decision.

“It was an unbelievable honour to be wanted by [manager] Harry Redknapp and a club like *Tottenham, but it was also an *unbelievable honour that David Moyes [the Everton boss] was never going to let me go.

“I could have kicked off about it – and many players would have – but that’s not my style.

“I have principles – I have had them throughout my career – and loyalty is perhaps the biggest of those principles.

“I know that other players would have put in a transfer request or thrown their toys out of their pram, but that was never going to happen with me.

“You can call it naïve. I’d like to think I am clever and sensible because putting in transfer *requests, demanding this and that, only works short-term.

And you know what, that's completely fine with me. He's telling the truth there and fair play to him.

Boom!

In one respect I can understand it: he's not an Evertonian and United are still his club - we all know this - and CL football was reaching out to him for one last hurrah in the big time. Fair enough he'd want some of that. But, as you say, for him to try and come across as Mr Everton is not on.

All the negative haters obviously don't remember the 90's finishing between 5th -8th every year would have been beyond our wildest dreams apart from '96 be thankful we head into every season not fearing a relegation scrap because you would have something to really moan at then.

I rmember them and we dont want to go back there. But that doesn't make not being successful right.
