It's not even about that for me - as I said in a thread this week I think 7th would be a great league position this year. I predicted 8th at the start of the season so it's above expectations for me.

No, my problem is with Phil Neville using the media again to lie to fans. He isn't an Evertonian, he would leave the club at the drop of a hat for more money, so why doesn't he just be bloody honest.

He's a good captain, he gives what he can on the pitch, but the man is a bloody idiot and an egotist where the media is concerned.

Compare Baines' comments to Nevilles. Baines thanks his teammates, which is correct and fine, whereas Neville has to throw his media titbit to the fans again. It's disingenuous, sickening and nonsensical.

We're supposed to accept footballers are professionals, have no loyalty and chase the paycheque. Fair enough. But the reverse truth is that we should also be fairly sickened when footballers play the "I love the club" card.

Can't have it both ways. I don't "love" any Everton player anymore and haven't done for a long time; I simply respect them, because I know each and every one of them would leave given a better pay packet.

I will stand by my word, he is an average player, with the same kind of motivation that Moyes has off the pitch, and that - is why he is captain, he will be an Everton Manager one day.

That kinda highlights the problem with this thread. Why do people think Neville goes around Finch Farm telling everyone he wanted to go? Like said in a different thread, that type of stuff is between player and manager. So unless Moyes is down the local pub spreading gossip, ignore it.

I'm not entirely sure where the animosity is coming from here. What has Neville done to earn the wrath of people around here? Say something positive and optimistic? I'm all for raging at the club when they lay a steaming pile of crap on the pitch but moaning and bitching over every little thing seems a tad overzealous.

He may love the club, just not as much as United, he has never denied that he doesnt support United, and it may be unbelievable, but you can support more than one club. Also, even if you support the club, it doesnt make you want to stay at the club for ever. The player bases his career on these 10 years, its right for them to do what is best for them and their family.

Also, you ask him to be honest, well he was honest about Evertons transfer worries a few days ago, saying we have to sell to buy and improve - something which is true, and got slated for it. So what would you have him do? Either keep quiet - which is not what a captain does, tell the truth and have the moral of the team and fans go down, or lie (if he is doing) and keep everyone happy
