Netherlands piloting women to play men's football

Just silly, start of a slippery slope that will see them eventually bring in quotas because it's a 'mixed' game.

What is so wrong with having a sport that is split by gender? Athletics would be a better example but women wouldn't get near a podium. Things like polo it is fine and understandable but having mixed teams just prevents opportunities to a large portion of women and to they few boys that might be blocked by a woman in a team. Don't get it.

This is a bit wrong way of looking at it imho and unfair on Nevin. To become a professional footballer especially back you would need a lot of steel about you. He may be slight but would be able to handle himself. Same with rugby players, the backs aren't weaklings.

Most professional men would be able to bully a professional female being stronger and faster.
I've known a few women with steel. I've also played against a team who fielded a woman (schools staff match) and nobody could get near her.

(I could have if it wasn't for the injunction)

Football is a transfer game as well remember.

So teams wouldn't buy a female if they didn't think they were as good as a male counterpart.

I don't think it will ever happen at the very top due to the biological advantages men have, however if a woman was good enough to play in the Championship or Premier League, there really should be no reason why she shouldn't be allowed.

If a team was willing to employ, pay and insure her then it's their responsibility.

Its a very slippery slope when you basically tell a female competitor "hey you're good enough to play in League two but sorry League one is too much for you".

Its just ridiculous - by all means promote womens football I have no issue with that but lets not pretend that its not a complete mismatch to have women mix it up with men in physically competitive sports.

Otherwise we may aswell start letting lightweights take on heavyweights in boxing for the lulz.

Why is it a "very slippery slope"? Don't male players get told that all the time?

Because with male players its down to ability with female players it would largely be down to their gender.

In the current climate of everything offends everyone its a disaster waiting to happen.
What? So the level a male player reaches is down to his ability. Surely the same applies to a female player?

I think the only people being offended here are the misogynists.

Get a grip

And maybe play some competitive sports to a decent enough level and you'll quickly find you're talking out your backside.

And thats from someone who spars with female BJJ fighters and competes at a decent level and there is a reason why males and females are not pitted together in most physical competitions

I'm not saying women can't be strong, but I remember seeing a documentary on the SAS guys that stormed the Iranian embassy and they looked about 5 feet nothing but would happily snap a larger man's bones because they are freaks of nature aided by training. That is what we are talking about here, that is the type of difference, people have mentioned Messi on here like he is a vase made out of china. He would have been used to being kicked around all over the place and has the muscle mass to deal with it.

That lady who was untouchable in your match, perhaps she was a proficient footballer playing week in week out? If so she might be able to look decent if no one else is playing to that standard. I bet also no one is thinking they are going to test her physically in a friendly type match. In a professional setup they would look for the week links. In fact they probably wouldn't clatter in to her as it would be better to have her on the pitch than be replaced.

We all laugh at Keane's tugboat turn, well he would look like Usain Bolt if suddenly men are allowed to play in women's teams.

For a laugh in a non-competitive match then no problems, anything else is just PC nonsense. You would likely have to change the rules as a woman would get seriously injured and instead of just written off as a naturally occurring mismatch which happens in the mens game, it will be deemed the game is unsafe. I want to see more tackles not get to the point touch football is introduced.

You fight women? I am impressed.

They may not even be good enough for league 2, never mind league 1.

Technically, there is no reason a female player cannot reach the top level, as you say its more down to biology.

My point is, I dont think we will ever see that as the very top level (at least in England) requires a fitness level that im not sure women can ever reach due to genetics. But if technically they are good enough for lower leagues or slower tempo leagues there is no reason they shpuldnt be able to make it in the mens game.

But this isnt just about physicality, its also about technical ability otherwise we would see a load of 6ft 5 cloggers every week.

Lets just call a spade a spade...

Womens football is poor to watch and the ability levels are way below mens football.

A half decent boys team / above average mens Sunday league team would annihilate the Englands women's football team.

The only way any female footballer is getting anywhere near senior mens professional or semi professional football will be by way of diversity quotas. And, sad to say, that seems quite possible in the not to distant future.
And they do. Women’s international teams play local boys teams as warm ups to the World Cup. The regularly get thrashed.

Very slack use of the word mate. I would happily see (& hope to see one day) a woman crowned world snooker champion, F1 grand prix winner, perhaps even a masters golf win?

These sports should give women the ability to compete against men, but even then it's difficult as snooker and golf especially you need the extra power to succeed. To pit a woman against professional athletes in a sport where how fast you can run, for how long, can you challenge against bigger, stronger opposition. FFS look how much we turn on players like Bernard for not coming out with the ball when going into a tackle. It's crazy to even think about unless women flip the whole genetics thing on its head and start running faster, lifting more weights etc. Etc.
