Finished on -23 last season with the 13th best defensive record in the league. We have a worse defence and still no fit striker. So as it stands, I expect us to have a worse g/d than last season.

True, the 7-0 Arsenal game lead to that though. And then we were knocked out of the qualifying round of the champions league then slaughtered 5-0 out the europa league. Moyes messed that up so bad..

A basic aim for us needs to be having a + goal difference. There is a high correlation between a + goal difference and a good side / decent table finish.

It’s not the be and end all but if we want a sustainable good side we need to be hitting that + goal difference. We throw in the towel far too often, and concede 3,4,5.
