Mike and Kobe were dominant forces with great players behind them. Lebron Is.
My priors (again), you have to have an elite HOF (top-20 all time, more or less) to win a ring these days. Often it's the best HOF on the court that wins the ring, but obviously we've seen great battles (Magic-Bird, Kobe-Duncan, Lebron-the World).
The Spurs have a system that generally works, though we'll see if they can do it without Duncan in the middle. The '04 Pistons were a thing (admittedly rules have changed since then). So were the Mavs when the Heat failed so spectacularly to begin with. Speaking of, wasn't Wade a shoot-first PG in '06?
Always exceptions, but I'm not sure the Spurs quite fit. My man crush on Kawhi is strong, but he needs another player if he wants to win more rings. That team this year is not good enough.
I agree Russ is unlikely to be the centerpiece of a dynasty. He seems too iconoclastic. But I also wouldn't bet against him stealing a ring in a down year if he ends up on a team that works with him.
Always a chance, but if he can get good talent on the Lakers he'll have his best chance.
Let's not forget he took a team with 73 wins to 7 games with Durant and Ibaka. Outside of those three, it was by no means a great team, as seen this year. We shouldn't downplay how incredible that GS team was, and by proxy how good OKC was, just because LeBron decided that everything mortals wanted was immaterial because it was time for Cleveland to get their ring.
They had some good teams in OKC, just think they had a really good 1-2 with Russ and Durant.
