Harden offered $200 million by Adidas. Nike can meet the offer to keep in on. Dang!

Read about this the other day and it came across like some RFA contract: Nike have until a certain date to match the offer. Like, maybe he likes them and wants to take a couple weeks and sign with them for less... wtf?? :o

This is great on Moses Malone:

Moses Malone, the N.B.A. center known as the Chairman of the Boards for prodigious rebounding that propelled him to the Basketball Hall of Fame and acclaim as one of the top 50 players in the league’s first half-century, died during the weekend in Norfolk, Va. He was 60.

His death was announced on Sunday by the Philadelphia 76ers, whom he helped lead to the 1983 N.B.A. championship.

The Norfolk police said in a statement that Malone was found unresponsive in his room at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott by hotel workers shortly before 8 a.m. on Sunday. He was pronounced dead there.

Officer Daniel Hudson, the chief public information officer for the police, said there were “no signs of foul play.” The Virginia chief medical examiner’s office in Norfolk said that a pathologist would examine Malone’s body on Monday.

[The office later said the cause was cardiovascular disease.]

Calvin Murphy, the Hall of Fame guard and Malone’s former teammate with the Houston Rockets, told KRIV, a Fox TV station in Houston, that he had spent time with Malone on Saturday night and that hotel security was called when Malone did not appear at breakfast before they were to play in a celebrity golf tournament.

At 6 feet 10 inches and 215 pounds or so when he turned pro, Malone was hardly the biggest or strongest center, but he played with uncommon intensity and energy.

“Most guys have second and third effort,” Kansas City Kings center Sam Lacey told The New York Times after Malone’s Rockets defeated the Kings in the 1981 N.B.A. playoffs. “Moses had ninth and 10th effort. He just keeps going and going until he gets the ball.”

When Malone joined the Utah Stars of the American Basketball Association out of high school in Petersburg, Va., in 1974, after intending to play for the University of Maryland, he was the first high schooler in modern basketball to go directly to the pros.

Darryl Dawkins, the flamboyant center known as Chocolate Thunder for his fierce dunking and the first high schooler to go straight to the N.B.A. when he became a 76er in 1975, died on Aug. 27 at 58.

Playing for 19 seasons in the N.B.A. — with the Rockets and the 76ers in his prime — Malone was a three-time most valuable player, and he appeared in 11 All-Star Games. At his death, he was the league’s career leader in offensive rebounds, with 6,731. He led the N.B.A. in total rebounds five times and averaged 20.6 points a game. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., in 2001.

Malone signed with the 76ers before the 1982-83 season and was named M.V.P. for the regular season. He teamed with Julius Erving and Bobby Jones at forward and Maurice Cheeks and Andrew Toney at guard on that Sixers team, coached by Billy Cunningham, which finished first in the Atlantic Division with a 65-17 record.

Before the 1983 playoffs began, Malone predicted the 76ers would go “four, four, four” — or, as has commonly been cited, “fo, fo, fo,” in the Southern vernacular — en route to the championship.

He was off by one game.

The 76ers defeated the Knicks in four straight games in the Eastern Conference semifinals; beat the Milwaukee Bucks, 4-1, in the conference finals; and then swept the Los Angeles Lakers to capture the N.B.A. championship. Malone was named M.V.P. of the finals.

Moses Eugene Malone was born on March 23, 1955, in Petersburg, Va. His father moved to Texas when he was a child, and he was living with his mother, Mary, who worked at odd jobs, when he starred for his high school team.

Malone played in two games for the N.B.A.’s Buffalo Braves in 1976, then was traded to the Rockets and was named M.V.P. with them in 1979 and 1982. The Rockets reached the finals in 1981.

After four seasons in Philadelphia, he played for the Washington Bullets, the Atlanta Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks, then returned to the 76ers for a season and played a final season with the 1994-95 San Antonio Spurs.

Malone had 16,212 rebounds in his N.B.A. career, averaging 12.2 a game, and led the league in offensive rebounds eight times. He was named a first-team All-Star four times.

He was honored as among the leading 50 players of the N.B.A. when it celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1996.

Malone’s survivors include a son, Moses Jr. A complete list was not immediately available.

His teammate Julius Erving paid tribute to Malone as the 76ers approached the 1983 playoffs.

“It seems he’s always there at the end of a close game to do something to help us win,” Erving told The Times. “If it’s not a basket or rebound, it’s a steal, or a real good pick.”

Asked what he would have done if he had not played professional basketball, Malone replied: “Hard to say. The Lord made some people to be engineers, he made some people to be doctors. He made me to be a great basketball player.”

Not long till the season now, who is everyone's early favourite for the following:

Champion
MVP
6MOTY
Defensive player of the year
Most Improved
Rookie of the Year
First time all star selection

Also is it worth buying league pass?

Yeah I didn't think they were great! They are playing Atlanta Hawks. Don't think they are great either?

Atlanta has been good recently, but I don't usually pay attention to NBA until Christmas, so I have no idea what has happened in the off-season (i.e., transfer window). Atlanta has a good coach, though, and plays non-flashy, technically adept basketball. Knicks are terrible, but have Carmelo. Should be an interesting contrast in styles, although if it's pre-season you won't get the full flavor.

I think it is the second league game? First home game. Just be cool to see a game there! I'm also seeing NYC football team - purely to see Pirlo! I hope he doesn't get injured!!!

Hawks had the most wins in the East last season but injuries (and a few run ins with the law, which has resulted in Thabo Sefelosha looking to sue the NYPD) and a lack of a superstar seen them fall short to the Lebron led Cavs in the Eastern Conference finals.

4 of the starting 5 players were named in the All Star team and all 4 remain with the other starting player Demare Carroll leaving to join the Raptors. They managed to bring in Splitter from the Spurs which is a good addition as they lacked a solid 5, which now allowsthem to play Horford at his preferred PF more. Will also be interesting to see how Yim Hardaway Jr does in a good team that plays good team basketball.

Regarding the Knicks, they've added a solid centre in Robin Lopez and their draft pick Porzingis could be a star or he could be terrible. If Melo is healthy and firing he could easily go off as he is one of the best scorers in the league. Should be fun nevertheless.

I didn't know the season was starting so soon. Need to start my NBA fantasy prep then, I guess. Yankee Stadium is a great place, hopefully it's good for watching soccer too. The crowd at MSG should be good. If you're around on an Everton match day, check out the NYC supporter group at Mr Dennehy's.

Speaking of fantasy, anyone interested in a GOT fantasy league?

Thanks for the info! I will keep an eye out for the players you mentioned! Just can't wait to sample some US sport!
