How often does it actually happen though? Did it kick off in Russia for instance?

Part of me thinks the media overblows it

Oh come on Mikey, there's footage of large crowds of them acting up nearly every time England play abroad. Russia was an exception because they knew they would've got filled in if the stepped out of line and I suspect a lot of the chief bells were priced out of going.

Didn't really happen in any major tournament from 2002 onward. There were some issues with the Russian supporters in 2016, but that's about it and Russian fans aren't exactly angels themselves and were actively attacking regular England fans who had just gone the match with their kids

It's overstated in my opinion. Not saying it doesn't happen but I think it's a far smaller minority than people like to act like it is. Not condoning that sort of behaviour, but to say that England should be banned from tournaments is a bit much. I don't recall you saying Montenegro should be banned from tournaments when they were racially abusing England players in the last European qualifier for instance

I think it's more likely to happen more often in places that are easy to reach at affordable prices and have sunny climates, hence marseille, portugal etc. Russia was more difficult logistically for that sort of thing.

I still think this is a pretty rare thing to happen these days and it's massively overstated in the media and by the usual anti-England brigade

These people need weeding out for sure, but to say that England should be banned from tournaments is a massive over reaction. They are a minority

If England get banned then every other nation that does similar gets the same treatment.

There’d be like 8 teams in the euros.

And let's be clear, we're not condoning this behaviour and it sounds like these idiots deserved a leathering, but let's not forget 18,000 fans are said to have gone over and a paltry 2 have been arrested

It is a minority and the other England fans who turn up just to watch the match shouldn't be grouped in with them

Yeah, let's not forget Balkan nations insulting each other with racist slogans, throwing bananas to black players etc. Europe is an awful place still and England is no exception in that regard.

Ban the team... it’s one sure way of ensuring there is nothing to gather for football related. Simple.

You can't blame the players for having idiots use their success as an excuse to congregate and act so abominably - you get such anarchic behaviour in demonstrations too where a sizeable minority cause trouble - but you can't ban demonstrations, only take measures to limit or contain.

Banning fans from travelling, taking passports away - banning away fans are all possible

Banning teams and stopping players playing through no fault of their own, may not even be entirely safe legally and could be challenged if other measures haven't been tried.

It's an easy option and an easily voiced one, but one that isn't entirely fair on either national teams players or their ruling FA board. Punishing those responsible can't be completely bypassed in favour of this all-encompassing 'easier' solution as these days it would be challenged in the courts.

No mate, you are absolutely wrong. We're quick to judge Liverpool fans when there's footage of a few of them misbehaving, but the England fan problem is on a much larger scale. I can't believe you're trying to downplay it.

We were talking about this problem 40 yrs ag, 30yrs ago, 20 yrs ago 10 yrs ago and will still be talking about it in the future. The minority will always spoil it for the majority. I went to Portugal in 2004 and Germany in 2006 and the local Police on both occasions were praising the England fans for thier behavour and I really thought with England that things were changing, but sadly that has been proved wrong. These idiots will tag along with England because its England and can get away with it due to the numbers, soon as the riot police turn up, they do a runner and the innocents get caught up in it.

I think you’ll find it’s been done before.
