…..I had it in mind Lampard wasn’t keen and even picked Kenny ahead of him but I’ve probably got that wrong.
Whether he has ‘earned his place’ is a moot point, a matter of opinion but we’ve been around the block and back on that one.
(Did you suggest we go for the lad who played LB for Newcastle last night? Somebody on here did, and last night confirmed to me how ordinary he is. He runs like he’s got a bag of spanners in his shorts.)
Yes i think hes a good player. Expect he'll be England youth sides left back and get into the full squad in the next 3 years.
No you're right Lampard started him 14 times in 44 games and Dyche has started him 17 times in 49 games so no difference really in how much anyone has seen in him but Dyche is ruining his career he'd be the best right back in the league if only someone would play him.
When Lampard first came in (just after Patterson had signed) he chose our more established players in Kenny but mainly Coleman.
At the start of last season, Patterson started the season as our RB and only got dropped when he got injured when Coleman came in. When Patterson was fit, he came back into the team before he got injured again.
Lampard last season, favoured Patterson but he got a couple of injuries. Lampards first half season with us he favoured experience.
It’s a myth being peddled on here that all of pattersons previous managers didn’t rate him.
But that potential is only useful if it’s potential to become a good player for us in the future that’s what I’m trying to say. If he has the potential to be better than Coleman and young were at their best then that’s great but just having the potential to get a bit better than he is now isn’t enough of an upside to be factored in. What it comes down to is I haven’t seen much in him to get excited about and some people apparently have that’s all.
If he's not worse than anyone else we have in that position and has the most potential to improve in it then they're surely the only things that should be factored in
If/when we sign someone who's clearly better than him in that position then that will cease to be the case
No because like I’ve just said if his potential isn’t good enough to be our long term first choice then his potential makes no difference maybe if I talk about his potential bbc website ratings you’ll understand better?
Under Lampard Patterson played when he wasnt:
A: Injured
B: Coming back from injury and Coleman was doing well enough to keep him out.
Otherwise he played.
As for potential, he does have the potential to improve.
He is also superior to all the other right backs at the moment.
So he should be played as:
1: Hes the best right back at the club
2: He has the potential to improve further.
Its actual madness that hes not playing.
