An 18 year old RW?

I'd rather put Patterson in.

Patterson has something - I have never doubted that. But he's a bit too attack oriented. We need the attack/defence balance in FBs...preferably erring on the defensive side.
Heres dave implying that modern full backs need to defend.

….Tommy Wright & Ray Wilson were wingers at that age. John Hurst played as a striker in an FA Youth Cup winning team, Tony Hibbert in central midfield.

Wingers have the quality in possession, natural pace and mobility to convert. I agree it’s a long shot with Mills, but worth watching him next season with an eye to the future. The young U23 LB looks a real prospect if we can keep hold of him.

Defend? Perish the thought.

That lad plays so far up the pitch it's untrue.

He's a winger by all sensible reasoning.

I’m sure he won’t just ignore tactical instructions and just go and chill on the edge of the opposition’s penalty area. Maybe you’ve seen him play at wing back under specific tactical instructions before.
