Naismith 3 year extention

In comparison to the other players who looked like they were only 50% fit, yes absolutely Naismith was bound to stand out as a player putting in the effort.

He stood out because he was 'in a good moment' as Martinez would say. Unfortunately those moments have been few and far between this season for both Naismith and the rest of the squad.

Part of the problem really isn't he? I recognise he has qualities, not least of which is a backbone (and not many of his team mates have shown one too many times this season in games we needed to make a stand in). But he's woefully inadequate if you're game is about passing and having quality in the final third. His misplaced passes are the stuff of legend. I haven't seen a player in a blue shirt like him for giving the ball away.

I think we have to try and shift him on.

He's one of our hardest working players, which is entirely different. Not one of our better players though.

Exactly. However, a common characteristic of the British approach to the game is fawning over hard-working players rather than the technically gifted ones. A lot of Everton fans (not all, but a lot) love Naisy because he runs around a lot and works hard. they ignore the fact that he isn't good enough to be anything more than a squad player. He has been very, very poor over the last few months (as have quite a few of our players, I'm not singling him out) and yet you still get people saying he's one of our better players. In my opinion he should not be starting even close to as many games as he has. He is a decent player who is useful off the bench and can do a job from the start if he has to fill in for somebody else - thats it.

I agree, he should have been rotated more! Naismith and Barkley should have been rotating rather than putting them both in the team with one out of position, it's been a huge problem and one of Martinez' biggest failings this season!

His biggest problem is him believing that Naismith can play that number 10 role. Its had us all scratching our heads all season long.

He hasn't got one single attribute that the position requires. Its baffling.

The way I see it is that he is not a player who fits Martinez style of play. He is an old-fashioned striker, why play him in the attacking midfield? We need creative players there. If he's going to be used, it should be as a striker. He knows where to be and how to finish, but he hasn't got the vision or passing to play behind the striker in our formation.

He works hard though, but that doesn't always win the race.

He should be a 2nd striker really, I definitely prefer to see him in and around the box rather than 30-40 yards from goal. He needs to be getting on the end of moves, not given a creative role.
