My thoughts on the possible signing of Landon Donovan.

Disinterested?

I believe that's an accurate statement where Landon is concerned.

After reading the stories this past week - he clearly wants out. Kinda sad at my club for shackling him to them if he just doesn't want to be there, and all indications are he doesn't.

@DanLevyThinks Expect we could see some "Sell LD to Everton" columns soon here. He played really well there in Jan/Feb.

His contract runs for one more season after this current one, which due to the crazy MLS scheduling means that is concluded sometime in November of 2013. I tend to believe the MLS would accept a 'reasonable' offer for Landon, no reason why they won't. He is signaling he would like to play for the Toffee's, if the MLS didn't accept anything for him they'll end up losing him for nothing.

Bottom line is I want to see Landon go to Everton permanently, one way or another.

There's another element here I haven't seen mentioned.

Jurgen Klinsmann. He very well might apply pressure to MLS to let Landon leave as Landons success is critical to the USNT, and the best preparation for the WC will be playing with Everton, not LAG, and if he's bored in MLS as I think indications are, that's even worse leading up to the WC. Jurgen has been pretty honest about wanting his players playing at the highest level possible, where they can get regular playing time.

It was Jurgen who set up training stints with numerous young USNT players and hopefuls this past winter in the BPL and Bund. If he thinks MLS is hampering Landon, and by extent hampering the USNT as the pressure increases towards the WC, I'd say it's highly likely Jurgen steps in, and MLS does not want to have problems with Jurgen who they lean on for advice and in general have a solid, working relationship with.

No chance they'll let him leave mid season.

How do you know that? How closely do you follow LAG? They're in last place in their conference, Landon is on NT duty, Keane Euro 12, and Becks most likely leaving for the Olympics. Come July, they might mathematically be eliminated from the playoffs, with literally nothing to play for, and their coach might very well be fired by then.

In that scenario, with a 37 yr old Becks, and Keane with only a few month left on his contract, blowing up the team and creating cap room(yes it's stupid, but MLS does have their salary cap) to start over and rebuild might come to fruition very quickly. Keeping Landon around if he wants to leave, is not happy, with nothing to play for, and another DP in Keane leaving in a few months, along with possibly Klinsmann getting involved and applying pressure, isn't written in stone as you imply. You think with everything going on currently with LAG there's "no chance"?:o

I wish we could get Donovan in the summer and then bring Beckham over for the 2 month loan thingy, he's still got all the attributes he had 10 years ago, still one of the best crossers in the world, Jelavic would love it. Then there's the revenue...

Becks already said he wouldn't come to us coz of the rivalry with United. The tit. The massive lovable beautiful tit.

OMG !!!

WTF ???

So , we get 40 Landon Donovan's - 1 for each game , plus the two cup ties wel obviously lose ; and we TIMES THEM By 0 ..

An Tah-Dah !!! Theyve disappeared ....!!!

#No .. #WaitThere ....

I'm completely sure they won't let him leave mid-season.

Would love to be wrong like.
