It's a very promising time for fans of the England national team, with some seriously good young forwards who have already emerged or are still emerging. We are stacked in that department. However, here's the stone cold hard kick in the nuts.

Goalkeeper - nothing more than average.
Defence - nothing more than average.
Midfield - With the exception of Foden, it is nothing more than average.

Oh and as for the manager, yes I do genuinely like the bloke, but Southgate is nothing more than average.

I'm confident that I'll be proven right and that England will still have not won anything, sadly. Feel free to vault this.

Henderson seems like a good young keeper, but good young keepers always look better in worse sides so the test will be when he eventually gets a go at United.

Chilwell is a good young left back, and there’s a decent number of good right backs including Wan Bissaka and Arnold at the RS as long as he doesn’t have to defend.

Centre back looks bleak though, in general.

Midfield it all depends on how they push on, but Mount has impressed overall this year, and could be a top level player if hepushes on. I’ve not seen anything to get excited about with Rice though when I’ve watched him.

As you say, looks good for the future up front, and on the wings, though.

Not a patch on the MF and striker options, granted, but not a disaster.

Greece won a Euros. If they start doping like the current league champions, and got a percentages, high tempo coach, England would win something.

Stop looking to the future, the squad is pretty damn good.

Honestly this is probably the best England squad I have seen since I have been watching this sprot. Plus Brasil isn't all that these days so you'll be one of the favorites in America's 2022 Pizza Hut Covid invitational.

Still light years behind the best teams in the world, but it’s not really due to individual quality which I think England does have. It’s far more to do with having a system that is good for club level football is very sub optimal for the national team.
