The Text below is a copy and paste of a post I put up in the aftermath of the Wembley trip last season and in a similar thread to this. My lad has never lived in Liverpool because of my job and spent lots of time down south and overseas. Bottom line is that your lad too will take the bad days on the chin as we do and learn to revel in the good days even though at times they appear few and far between.
Bottom line is it always comes down to the the good old Born a Blue..................etc...........
"My 11 year old and I were waiting on the Platform at Wembley Park to start out short sombre Journey home. A quite animated teenager with his dad tapped my lad on the shoulder pointed at me and said "its his fault you feel like this", then pointed at his own dad and said" thats my dad and its his fault that I feel the same - you should have been a red mate - get out while you can"
My lad said nothing
I just smiled at the teenagers dad and didnt really have anything to say.
A few second later another tennager tapped him on the shoulder and said "I'd rather walk alone mate"
and then as we step onto the train a quite old fella put his hand on my lads shoulder and said -"you stick with your dad son - it would be like selling your sole to the devil."
We only have about 6 stops and then got off for my missus to pick us up - whilst we were waiting for her my lad looked up at me still with teary eyes and said
"Dad I dont want to be one of them - I'm an Evertonian"
Well - dont know how I didnt cry like a girl there and then - really proud moment.
The bottom line is as we all well know - we are chosen!! We did not choose.
It doesn't matter if it was your Dad that chose you, your mate, a twist of fate or circumstance - you just are!!
COYB!!!!!
