you ever watched Barry play?

*just wondering*

He IS our pivot, he's the one putting his foot on the ball and spotting the forward passes.

McCarthy when he gets forward is there to press and keep the possession further up the pitch, not that creative. Barry is the one who sits back with the grand view and 'directs'.
I really can't be arsed explaining to you the specifics of the thing you guys were so confused about about 5 posts ago (and your perseverance with the idea Pirlo and Barry are the same type of player apparently; also with the idea that football is this extremely simple thing where there's only one term for a role), so I won't, and will instead say this:

NO MATE I'M UNDER 30 AND DISCOVERED FOOTBALL YESTERDAY AND JUST PLAY FM AND RESTART WHENEVER THINGS DONT GO MY WAY LOLOLOL @chicoazul

Nah not saying only/primary function is to do that, but it's vital for the way we've set up (with the attacking full backs and all) that our two defensive mids defend a lot more, because of the open space left by the left and right back respectively.

Because of the way we play as well, though - it's vital for them to be able to actually pass, not just break up play. That's similar to a deep lying playmaker/regista role in that way only. Pirlo was usually very much relieved of those duties when he played, because he had Gattuso to win the ball (to use my previous example cuz I'm lazy), but he had to make the precise diagonal passes across the field, etc etc. Barry does have the vision, but I feel like his technique lets him down a lot in that respect - he sometimes looks like he's unable to kick a ball past 20m for some reason... I get it towards the end of the game as he's ancient, but it just seems... unnatural when he tries to make those passes lol

Then again this is my guestimation based on observation, as I'm not an actual football manager (YET HEY HO), nor am I living in Martinez' head to know the exact, specific way we've set up. For all I know we're both plebs and we're wrong.
Haha well at least we've got each other!

He's also perfectly capable of slipping into the slipper role!

Who knows

Thank god you are here ! Im reading the posts like were the hell is stevie when you need him ! He should never be allowed to let that down, spent his whole career craving the one thing he ballsed up - anyone else would have my sympathy but not him. The egotistical crease headed whopper.

What's more worrying is that we have people talking about Barry in the same sentence as Pirlo and Xavi.

Nobody compares to pirlo or xavi in that respect. Great point on Gattuso too, one of my favourite players ever because he was key to the great Milan side that the other lot beat. I hate them. Loved Athens though super pippo.

who exactly is comparing Barry to Pirlo and Xavi?
we were just pointing out that Barry does the same function within our team.

Mate Barry is not regista(deep lying plamaker and I m sorry to use that word but it s short) , you just have three examples players who are regista , Pjanic can play regista from top of my head but Barry is not that . Pirlo and Gattuso where regista and DM . We just need Pirlo next to Barry.

I know, he has been going on about it again this week.

It has totally ruined him

Is this what a chinese man sleeps on?

Besic is not a regista, but Gibson would be our player most suited to that role if he wasn't made of digestive biscuits.

On topic, and continuing the regista chat. Lets keep this going guys! ...its distracting from the nerves...

I thought Besic was very good in the last game. Am open to being proved wrong on this kid. More of the same tonight please.

Good afternoon. In less than 3 hours, fans from here will join others from around the world. And you will be launching the largest vocal battle in the history of mankind. "Mankind." That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore.

We will be united in our common interests. Perhaps it's fate that today is the 6th jan, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom... Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. And should we win the day, the 6th Jan will no longer be known as an Everton holiday, but as the day the fans declared in one voice: "We will not go quietly into the night!" We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate our Besic Day!
